looks like a tank. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the wildcat on a fourth-and-goal on the 1.

Cant wait for the spring game next weekend! I am really excited for this coming year. Obviously, its spring ball, so you cant really take it all that seriously, but the prospects for this season are sure exciting. Glad to see the defense step up this week. I think with that solid and proven front four, plus playmakers like Burton, Taplin-Ross, Williams, and Manis, we are going to be fine on both sides of the ball.

who will the starting quarterback be? Which quarterback has the better win/loss record?

This is from a UTE FAN not a Zoobie. One of these days everyone will figure out that Wynn is terrified to run the ball. He will not try to break a tackle and will not run when there is a chance to get hit. He only had one good hit on him last season, from BYU and he would have missed the next two games had it not been the last game of the season.

Football is a game of warriors and the UTES have two Warriors at QB, and the current starter is not one of them. I fully expect him to loose the spot or get hurt in the first couple games.

Yes, Wynn does need to learn to run the ball better. But, remember that our running backs are stacked this year, and our offensive line is easily the best in the conference. Wynn won't be taking a lot of hits this year, and can continue to rely on the running backs when he needs to.
Our offense has the potential to be great this year. We almost averaged 30 ppg last year, and we should be able to increase that number this year with a more experienced qb and a better line and hopefully a healthy rb core.

Re: Cougar Fan

BYU just graduated their QB and almost every single one of their defensive starters.

The high water mark of the program? A Vegas bowl victory. Needing overtime to beat a Utah team in a rebuilding year with a freshman QB.

I just have to wonder, do BYU fans ever hope for something more?

This comment does indeed sound like it came from a BYU-ite.

I don't know a lot about the game of football but I do have some knowledge of physics. My guess is that if Wynn reaches the target body weight set by the Ute coaches, he will start running the ball. I think it is very clear that he did not run last year because he was told not to.

A quarterback who can (and will) run forces the opposing defense to be honest and commit a body to be responsible for every position in the offense. Whittingham knows this is one of the reasons Alex Smith was so successful. He also knows that Brian Johnson had his fair share if injuries because he, too, tried to run.

Wynn will run when he gains weight. No doubt about it.

Best offensive line in the conference?

Maybe except for BYUs offensive line.

Wynn will never have the heart to run and will never elude a sack. He will never inspire the team. Just watch. Of course Whit will try to build his QB's confidense.

Wynn came back from Chistmas break at under 180 pounds. You people who think a D-1 QB can play in that range, obviously never played the game. He will get destroyed with the first big hit. Get on the Cain bandwagon. He is this year's future. You fellows will find if you can find someone close to the program, my comments are right on.

TCU has a senior OL and is pretty impressive. But i would give the nob to the Utes as the best OLine in the MWC. John Cullen will end up being a 1st round draft pick.

Wynn will never need to run the ball except against the better teams like TCU and Pitt.

THEeyepatch

Why are there Cougar fans commenting on a Sunday, shouldn't you be watching Lawrence Welk reruns or reading the BoM. Nice to see that even on Sunday, Cougar fan can't get Utes football out of their minds. Makes the LORD proud, keep it up Cougar fans.

Never?? As in...never ever?

Anonomous

Never, never, never and the reason is knuckles. Soft players are always soft players. Cain has looked better than Wynn in 70% of the practices this spring.

re:THEeyepatch

how THEeyepatch thinks:

BYU fan population= 100% mormon

Ute fan population= 100% atheist

what a stupid comment...

All the

turnovers can't be good news for the Kyle. A very poor defense able to come up with these turnovers means the qbs and the offense have taken a huge step back from last year. Wynn wouldn't be the first freshman qb who had a good freshman year and failed to produce after that.

Big_Ben

First of all, a big round of applause to the Dnews for requiring a username now. I think it will cut down on a lot of the immaturity. to the commenter at 7:15 am, you probably wont admit it, but your posts makes it sound like you are a scared BYU fan. Its unwise to make such statements after two scrimmages.

Utah Alum

Wynn's numbers last season were very average.

It's nice that he has a few games under his belt, but I think it's very possible we could see Cain playing alot, even if Wynn is the starter.

Cain is a much better scrambler. Wynn was obviously rattled by an early hard hit in the BYU/Utah game and seemed to be a little shy about getting hit the rest of the game.

"Wynn was obviously rattled by an early hard hit in the BYU/Utah game and seemed to be a little shy about getting hit the rest of the game."

uhmmm yea, He was on cruches for 2 weeks after the game. That just might make one a little shy.

I'm guessing you didn't see Wynn (the game MVP) in the CAL game 3 1/2 weeks later. I wouldn't call his performance "shy".

Thanks for playing.

Skierelmo

To the commentor who thinks BYU will have a better O-Line... I'm sure they'll prove it at your spring game!!! Take off the blue googles!!

Utah Alum

What makes you think I didn't see Wynn in the Cal game?

Wynn started the game shy; getting sacked four times and giving up a pick 6.

Wynn did have a good game against California after that and he was the MWP of the bowl, but let's not get carried away with the results of ONE game

Poinsettia Bowl:

26 of 36, 338 yards, 3 TDs, 1 int, a passing effeciency of 173.03

2009 Season:

104 of 179, 1329, 8 TDs, 4 int, a passing effeciency of 130.75

if Wynn had played a full season, a passing effeciency of 130.75 would have placed Wynn at #53 in the NCAA in 2009, behind Landry Jones of Oklahoma (130.83) and just ahead of Jarrett Brown of West Virginia (130.20)

other comparisons:

Max Hall, BYU -- 160.13
Andy Dalton, TCU -- 151.83
Terrance Cain -- 139.40
Diondre Borel, Utah St. -- 137.83

I'm still not convinced that Wynn is better than Cain.
