Typical human nature now days....Forget all the good things and dwell on the bad. How much has he saved over the last 16 years? Maybe they should give him a portion of that, after all, he lost $83K and they are taking $1300. We learn from our mistakes people, dont you think he can learn from his? Does it really need to be his head? If so, why arent you calling for the heads of Congress on a silver platter? They have cost you BILLIONS!!!!

how much???

the city manager only makes slightly over $400 a day?? That is offensive!! How can the poor guy make it on that paltry amount?

Seems like a responsible council.

$1300

The City Manager is making $1300 in a 3 day period? That's a six-figure annual income. I'm in the wrong sector. I should work for the government.

It seems to me that the city manager, the mayor and the city council made a mistake, as is inevitable. What they did which was not inevitable, but rather commendable, is take responsability for its actions in front of the entire city. It is a demonstration of a government for the people and by the people. As such, I agree with the council's decision, with perhaps the exception of a plan for future cases of similar mistakes. A small punishment for a first time mistake is acceptable. It should, however, include a larger consequence for such an action for all reprimanded should a similar and equally avoidable circumstance befall the city again.

I've lived in Clinton my entire life and know Mitch Adams. I wasn't always his biggest fan, but I found out he did give companies that moved into the city discounts on taxes as an incentive to move in. He had done more good than bad and made the city more money than other surrounding cities can gather.

Go Mitch.

he got off easy and so did they but wait until 2011 you have three council seats up and then everyone can have there voices heard. Kick him out along with the three others that voted to keep him and dock him 1300 is that all I would say two weeks without pay.

I think that they started out trying to do the right thing taking the blame and all, but when you get down to it the city is still out $83,000.00. I think between Dennis, the city council members and the mayor who is watching over everything should have to pay back the money with interest no mater how long it takes, the most should come from Dennis after all its his job.

FYI

When a city manager is docked 3 days pay @ $1300 makes about $54.15 per hour.
Do this about 64 more times and you'll recover the whole $83,000 (less interest).

Where was the City's outside auditor in this?

Mr. Cluff: I wonder how quickly you would have acted in removing the $83,000.00 had this been your own money??

I am saddened at the ugliness here. Surprised too. Many are making comments with just a fraction of the information. If you think the article covered the bulk of what took place at the meeting, you are wrong. Even after the $83,000 loss, the account netted a profit of $19,000 BECAUSE CLUFF MOVED THE MONEY IN 2000 TO CENTENNIAL FOR A BETTER INTEREST RATE. I hope most of you can follow that. Managing a city is much like acting as CEO AND CFO. I hear a little whining going on here. You think you can to a better job....try it.
