If Herbert is the pinnacle of republicanism, count me out. He is no Mike Leavitt. Perhaps Grassroots doesn't realize that Utahns are more moderate than they believe. Huntsman's chair wasn't even cold before Herbert was busy repealing affirmative action, fighting the EPA and endorsing the state's medieval view of environmentalism.
I think that most people are missing the picture. Most are sick of the current politicians. The conservative bent is less important than them not being incumbents.
Herbert is a very good man.How can you think about disting him when you look at what is going on in Washington?
I agree with dlharman. The best Utah governors have been problem solvers and political moderates. Herbert, like other politicians, is at his best when he governs from the middle. A high ranking with GrassRoots is just another way of saying you govern from the extreme.
Herbert leans farther to the right than most Utahns, which is really saying a lot. I'm sure he's a very good person, as Ed says, but so were Walker, Leavitt, and Huntsman. Utah is better served by a more moderate governor.
Watching the soap operas of the Legislators this year, and after Herbert declared earlier that he would in no uncertain terms VETO a cigarette tax if it came to him ... then to let it go through the cowardly way by simply not signing it, I wonder why we the people don't trust any of our "leaders" anymore! I grew up in the Midwest where a person's word was as good as a contract. Why didn't he show some backbone and SIGN it, at least taking responsibility for not keeping his word!
I can't imagine he would fight to keep nuclear waste out of here, can you?
We need to clean house and vote a lot of dishonest incumbents out.
that Herbert is also the least effective governor in that same span of time.
is the totally subjective judgment and ego of about 3 GOP wacks.
Herbert is a RINO, he had his grand children watch Obama's school address at school.
