Just TO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS Tom Caswell ?.
Taylor Swift is listening to Keith Urban in the dressing room, Bill Gates is posting vacation photos from a recent trip to Antarctica, and 152 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are hitching oxen to wagon and heading out on a 1,000 mile trek to find a new home.
Perhaps these 152 members (out of over 14 million member's) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that are hitching oxen to wagon and heading out on a 1,000 mile trek to find a new home, need to get a real job to support their family, or if they have none, then find one fast.
Put some rocks in your pocket's to bring you back down to planet Earth. The Church don't need the free PR.
That's my view.
Red State Observer,
I think you didn't read the full article. The pioneer trek is being historically re-enacted only via Twitter.
NO IT DON'T have to be historically re-enacted like a broken record year after year, no matter what/where/when the PR flows.
This sounds fascinating! I'll have to check it out.
Actually, I'm very grateful for the efforts of these good folk in bringing the Pioneer story to me in chunks I can assimilate quickly. Bravo, Tom and Marion! Bravo, all those who helped in the project!
Don't follow then you bozo.
This is just bad. It makes a mockery on those that have gone before. It saddens me to read articles like this.
Main Entry: twit
Pronunciation: ˈtwit
Function: noun
Date: 1528
1 : an act of twitting : taunt
2 : a silly annoying person : fool
I think it's wonderful. So many of today's generation are using these social networking tools to gain information... way to relate.
People used to get burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English and reading it themselves. Why? Because some thought it a mockery to let the common people *use* the Bible.
All we are trying to do with TwHistory is *use* the great journals that have been kept. I don't feel this is a mockery any more than when they started showing LDS General Conference over the Internet. Using technology to communicate the experiences of faithful LDS folks can be uplifting AND fun. No joke!
It does help if you read the entire article. It also helps if you look up their website. They don't just follow Mormon stuff. They're doing all kinds of historical reenactments.
Thanks for that last comment. Yes, we happen to be based in Utah, so a Pioneer Trek reenactment made sense. But this is really not about PR for a church or anyone else. TwHistory is about using social media (Twitter) to create online historical reenactments, thereby increasing access and engagement to history. If you don't use Twitter, that's fine. Maybe someday you will.
The fact that you are leaving comments on a website is proof that you already use social media. Just try to be polite and use it responsibly. What you say here is more permanent than you may realize.
1. Reenactments are recreational as well as historical.
2. Creating new ways to spread history is commonly known as a public service.
3. The dead suffer no insults (presumably) from these individuals. Though perhaps their trials are trivialized, no dishonor comes to them from such acts.
Logically speaking, very little negative things can hold much weight against this idea, so long as it holds to accuracy and honor.
