Of course they pass more laws! Are you surprised? The party of 'freedom' and 'heritage' wants to limit freedom. Oh, wait, Glenn Beck promotes freedon...oh wait, my head is...exploding!
More laws, more government intervention. How can Utah live like that? Communists.
All of the facts mentioned in the article are the reasons that we don't return to Utah where about 2/3 of our family live. It would absolutely drive me crazy.
This is not suprising.....what the story should talk about are the bills that don't even see the light of day. Or how much time did the legislature spend on message bills, vs. solving our big problems of job creation, education funding and our high unemployment.
Or lets talk about ethics --- well the legislature was a BIG dissapointment.
What a waste of print and time. Are you kidding me? Do these reporters have too much time on their hands. How about some real investigative journalism instead of a college political science project. Utah's Legislature is controlled by the GOP by a wide margin. The result will be obvious. Remember this the next time you whine that it was the Democratic health care bill that passed and not a Republican version (not that the GOP even bothered to introduce one). The majority rules. Is that news to you guys?
You don't measure a legislature by the number of bills passed but by strength of what they did. Balancing the budget in these tough economic times is a real accommplishment. All budget bills will be sponsored by a member of the majority party. Your comparison of the number of bills passed by party is meaningless - a couple of reporters just looking for a story line. Think of something better next time.
Just what we need, more laws. I thought Utah Republicans want to keep Big Government out of their lives?
Again, the heigth of ignorance is to comment on something you know nothing about. What bills were passed? Do you know? Why don't some of you bozos run for the legislature? Could you make a diffrence? Are the Democratic state legislatures any different? Does the national legislature pass more Democrat's bills than Repuplican? Does the author of this artical have an ax to grind? Do you really believe your conclusions are correct? Do you think you could submit an artical explaining or even documenting your conclusions?
Yeah, what we need is more Democrats so we can have the same budget woes as California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusets, etc.
All those Republicans and somehow Utah is again recognized as the best managed state in the country.
GOP wants absolute control over your lives. Everyone but a repub knows that.
Everyone knows republicans are intellectually superior to democrats. So go whine in Washington D.C. Maybe BHO will overturn Utah as being unfair.
Oh poor GOP members... We don't like what the article says so we are just going to "pretend" it's stupid and a waste of time, and then call the authors nasty names.
In fact this is very insightful article... Once again it shows the Hypocrisy of the GOP..."Sure we're for smaller government" HA! *roll-eyes*
Thanks for the breaking news!
ENOUGH LAWS! DON'T PASS ANYMORE LAWS!
We can barely make a decesion today without worrying which law we are violating. Next legislative session I want them to just remove laws from the books, and not add any!!!
Also note to the public. Quit voting in tax hikes and new bond issues, regardless of how worthy the cause. Hogle Zoo, the parks, new theatres, new rec centers, more school supplies, whatever. They are all worthy causes, but don't vote for them. The legislature already has enough of our money; it's time we make them move it around to the most important project, rather than just keep asking for more. When a worthy cause occurs in my home, I don't have the luxery of just asking my boss for more money. We take from somewhere else, and put it towards the cause.
And the best that party can give us is leaders like "Hot Tub" Garn and watered down ethics legislation. What's next, the GOP Taliban?
Republicans say they are for less government but they are always for more. Beware of the party that says they are for less, they are just making their own efforts.
Good, the less Democrat bills passed the less havoc they will create.
Another reason why the Republicans have the nickname of the party of NO; NO one but them are allowed to pass legislation.
Hey Bear Laker
You want to know a stupid bill passed and signed?
HB 462
Which makes miscarriage punishable as a homicide. We now have message law in response to the actions of ONE girl.
This is not only stupid (beating someone is already illegal), it's a fundamental intrusion into women's lives.
Bear Laker,
Here's another stupid law -invoking eminent domain to take back national monuments in Utah. 'Sounds good, (lets take our land back from the feds) but it's just a huge waste of money. It will never happen.
