"...Coach Jim and bring back the winning ways of Utah basketball since no other team in the Mountain West can get past the 2nd round in the NCAA Tourney."
And how did U guys do with your gifted 5 seed the season before last?
Boylen is doing a great job preparing his guys to play at the "next level", which is defined as a college program that is not utah.
Named Riverside County Player of the Year as a senior at Martin Luther King High School...two-time all-county selection...second-team all-state as a senior...averaged 21 points, five assists, eight rebounds in his final year of high school...helped lead MLK High to consecutive league championships...CIF semifinalists...state quarterfinalists...ranked No. 17 in Southern California and No. 27 in California in 2006-07.
Wow no wonder Carlon Brown didn't do well in college. He obviously had no basketball skills at all as a high school player. No coach could ever be successful with material like that. Poor Coach Boylen.
rats leaving a sinking ship
The content on this article changed since I read these posts last night where it was only reported that Brown was leaving. The Tribune blog reported that both players were leaving.
I agree with you 100% on Brown. He and Drca could score some points, but accounted for 9-10 turnovers per game that led to easy baskets. The team defense was solid, but these two were inconsistent at best and I am looking forward to some new players on the floor. I expected some sruggles from the young guys this year, but not from guys that have been in the program 3-4 years.
Chris Hill is a genius...just ask him
Give Boylen a couple of more years????? Why not give him a big raise and sign him to a longer term contract?
This, my friends is not the same as the Majerus years when players left after every offseason. First, I don't recall any offseason in which 4 players left, 2 of which would have had significant playing time next season (and one of which was your best player). Second, when players left the Majerus program, the program was still well-stocked with talent and, every single year, the team went back out and won again the next season. Unless the Utes have the best recruiting class in the West, I don't see any way for them to improve upon last season's performance. The biggest disappointment is that players don't seem to be progressing in this program -- they are essentially the same player they were when they started. Oh why oh why couldn't Iowa have saved our program???

has probably been reached....ooooooooh...it is kindaq scary!
As far as I'm concerned they can all leave including the coach. Tommy C. just a short phone call away.
"andy how did U guys do with your gifted 5 seed the season before last?".
Nice arguement coming from a team with one tourney win in the last couple decades. Utah has been to the the sweet sixteen, elite eight, final four and the finals in the last couple decades. Plus Utah played Arizona in their first round game last year. The same Arizona team that had two guys get drafted in the 1st round, Chase Budinger and Jordan Hill. Hill was taken in the top 10. They would have destroyed BYU last year.
Someone pinch me, is it Christmas in March? Is this an early April Fools joke?
This is one of the best things that could happen. Carlon was one of the WORST players of recent memory. Sure, he had skill, and showed incremental levels of improvement. That was until this year, when he went from a serviceable 3rd/4th option to the primary/only option. He did nothing to make anyone around him better, and proceeded to single handedly lose as many games as he won. And Boylen was right behind him with the green light. If you liked Allen Iverson-style bball, he was your guy.
Utah basketball, and college basketball in general for that matter, should be build on teamwork. Brown obviously has a problem with that, and Boylen was way to sloooow on the uptake to take the ball out of Brown's hands and develop some of the other more selfless players.
The program was going nowhere with Brown, he was at best a bridge-the-gap player while Boylen developed his recruits.
Brown, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Hey Moe, two more players just left the team! What are gonna do??!
AAAaaaaAAAaaaaAAaaaaaa!
Nyuk nyuk nyuk!
Is it just me, or is this starting to feel a lot like the Giacoletti era. The Hines transfer will hurt far more than the Brown transfer. He was the only real PG on the team.
Not even when BYU had their 1-25 season did players quit the team. Something is seriously wrong with utah's program.
have Jace Tavita, all will be well. How many other teams have a guard who shoots 30% from the FREE throw line.
This just kills me. I only hope Boylen all of a sudden doesn't learn how to coach. To tell you the truth, coming up to the Huntsman Center and running you out of your own building is something I was hoping I would get used to. Your program is a joke.
The Utes will rebound from these players leaving....Coach Boylen will be able to bring in his own recruits and I expect Utah to improve greatly the next several seasons. Jim Boylen is a very good man who knows what he's doing.
You can talk all the basketball smack you want. But lay off the football domination please. Yes 3 out of the last 4 but any knowledgable fan also knows those three wins were decided by what 5 plays maybe? Those three wins are by a total of 12 points.
