wrong track right track

An interesting stat from the Utah Foundation is that only 51% of Utahns think we are going in right direction. This is a big drop from 4 years ago.....and a big jump in those who think we are on wrong track. Time for change from the legislature to the state house........

Hmmm....if we're on the wrong track then why are we only looking at career politicians? If we want real change then we need to bypass these candidates and look elsewhere.

Peter has his hidden liberal agenda, behind his "conservative" yet democratic stance on things. I guarantee he'll push the liberal agenda behind the scenes while playing conservative family man to the cameras.

rick@rickety

If we are on the wrong track then what is the right track?

JD

Herbert says if we get the economy right then other thigs will fall into place and we should be getting out of the way of economic growth.

Seems like he likes both sides of the fence, true political statement.

Herbert got in the back door and it would benefit the state if that is how he left.

Let Herbert go

Gary Herbert for governor? I don't think so. I'm a Republican who is planning to vote for Corroon, unless the Repubs can stand a stronger candidate against him. Too bad. I don't want big government, but I trust Corroon understands that about Utah. Herbert lost my vote when he called the Jordan District split a mistake. He proved himself uninformed and uninterested in the citizens of his state.

Carroon

Cut their budget by 20% and increased taxes. Property tax valuations went UP while property values went down.

CocoSweet

Yep, property taxes went up a whole $20! A year. Why? Because it was to pay for a bond debt. I know that $20 was absolutely vital to those households... But so is paying the County Debt.

Property taxes and fees went up. Don't forget the fees. Be informed! Read! Learn! Ask Questions! And never just accept a liberal half truth for the whole truth.

Taxes and fees had to go up so the Mayor could support hiring more libs to run the show with high paying wages.

CocoSweet

Funny, I didn't say I was a liberal (and actually am not). As for hiring?? Are you kidding? Who exactly are you talking about? There ain't much hirin' goin' on around in the County. I'm not for either candidate and truly wish there was a moderate running that was viable.

interesting the story doesnt have gov herbert saying if he signed sb47 ?? making by law every utahn sign up for the power company's cooler keeper prog?

herbert signs .. guess corroon is a shoe-in

as for the jab at bennett .. i dont see anybody standing next to bennett .. bennett is history and might even so at the May convention ??

as for the taxes .. apparently you guys dont know about the 'truth in taxation' law ( i call it a lie in taxation) .. whatever amount of taxes collected last year HAS to be collected this year regardless the value of your property (thus the lie) but this state is so stupid about property tax and not forcing your rep's to create a prop13 so your property taxes stayed the same (until you sold) you know .. could afford to buy and maintain .. but currently taxes can go up because the same amount has to be collected this year as was last year ...

good luck to us

I hope the dear people

of Utah will chose based upon experience and stance and not only by political party. In my opinion, the last really great governors we had in this state (Scott Matheson and Cal Rampton) were democrats; conservative ones at that. I'm tired of the GOP backhanded business deals and the arrogance that goes along with being in absolute power (not good for democracy).

randy...you mean we are not as smart as those in California? Is that why we don't have $25 Billion in debt and issue IOU's instead of tax refunds?

I wish we could just be as smart as those in California. I know they're tired of Utahns just running to their state to buy a home and increase their quality of life.

CocoSweet - Not a liberal?! really. You think your taxes only went up $20?

How would you explain the mayor "cutting positions" in his staff, and then turning around promoting those people to higher paying positions? He increased the size and scope of his staff over the last mayor.

Read! Study! Look Around!

A progressive is still a liberal.

to anonymous: guess you arent to up on calif .. i had two small children , bought a house, tax was $880, the tax bill the next year went to $2,600 .. obviously couldnt make that was going to lose the house, jarvis-gann passed (prop13) my tax went back to the 1% of my purchase price of $55,000 or $550 dollars .. obviously i got to keep my house .. the state saw a $33million dollar increase in tax revenue because the 'rich' property's werent paying their fair share (just like here in utah) ..
i buy a house i can afford .. my neighbor builds a mansion .. why are my taxes supposed to increase, i didnt build a mansion i built and paid at what $$ amount i could afford ..
as for calif debit .. do you understand their education budget alone is $33 Billion , entitlements is calif problem and continuing to be utahs problem ..
i moved from slc at $2500 taxes, to utah co at $900 taxes, now my taxes are at $2600 with nothing to show for it .. want to buy my house ?? sure wish the state would
good luck to us all

RE: Let Herbert go | 10:08 a.m.

You are OBVIOUSLY NOT a republican,

since you are not even considering other republican candidates,

but someone of another party.

either that, or you are a RINO.

but people come on here, ALL THE TIME, and claim they are something they are not.

if you can't sell your point WITHOUT DECEIT,

without attacking the opposition,

then what good is your point?
