How did the 5th place team in the MWC even get into the WNIT? And why are they hosting this sweet sixteen round? The whole WNIT sounds fishy.
Y-girls lead the way...young men watch & learn!
Why is the game being played in Laramie? It sounds to me like it should be in Provo.
So what if Wyoming was fifth in the league. Check the records of other teams in the field this year. As for why it's being played in Laramie -- UW has the two highest attended games among any WNIT contests played so far. The committee takes into consideration who gets to host a WNIT game based on fan support. UW had nearly 4,600 for Tuesday's game. How many did BYU have last week? Less than 500! That's why the game tonight is in Laramie.

OK BYU fans. Try to educate yourselves before just spouting off. First of all the WNIT is privately owned - can you say profit. BYU drew about 300 fans for its first game. Wyo drew 3500 with students on Spring Break and in a blizzard that closed the roads - no fans from anywhere but Laramie - population maybe 20K without students. Then for the next game Wyo drew 4500 - again with roads closed because of the next blizzard.
As to why is Wyo in WNIT. We've already won two games in it - so stupid question. Attendance & winning history are one reason - can you say WNIT Champs just 3 years ago with record attendances. Also - we beat you by about 15 here, while you won by only 3 at your place. And lastly - way to support success of your conference. You'd think you'd be happy that 6 teams from MWC were good enough to make post season - but then again amybe you didn't even know that. No wonder its hard to root for you BYU even in nonconference games.
The reason the cowgirls got in was because of their play during the conference season as well as their attendence. Should be a crowd over 8,000 or better tonight. Don't forget about our run through the WNIT 2007......beat Wisconsin for the championship! In fact the semifinal game drew 14,000 and the championship was sold out 15,500.
Go COWGIRLS!
go team!!! win it all!!
Attendance!Wyoming had over 4500 in the game against Texas Tech. In the 2007 WNIT Wyoming hosted all of the games including the championship game against Wisconsin when they packed in over 15,000! Total attendance for all of those games was something like 45,000. NONE of the other schools even came close to that!
"Attendance & winning history are one reason"
Actually, thems there are two reasons.
I think you are probably right. I also think I really don't care. If you win, good for you, if not I am not sure who it will be good for since only 500 really give a hoot. Me on the otherhand I would like to see BYU win, but I don't know why. It won't enhance my life at all.
Wyoming women have high attendance? That's just sad. That proves I don't ever need to visit the area. Proves it.
GO Cougars!
its because you live in laramie that everyone is showing up to the game...its not because you want to go watch the cowgirls...its becuase you live in laramie...and there is LITERALLY NOTHING to do there!!!! the place is a hole....and watchin the cowigirls is honestly the only thing even remotly interesting!
I grew up and still live in Wyoming. I am a die hard BYU fan though, and Wyoming has had good fans following of the Cowgirls the last couple of years. Ever since Joe Legerski became coach at Wyoming the womens team has been drawing good numbers. When I went to school in Laramie you could count all the people in the stands in about five minutes. I will sum up the attitude of BYU fans towards women's sports in one sentence. IF it isn't BYU football or mens baketball it isn't worth going to. ANd even if it is men's basketball if it isn't on saturday we won't go. I think the attitude sucks, but if a school with over 30,000 students can't get 2,000 people to a women's game then they are a lathargic fan base. Don't get me wrong I think now that the men's team is done that if BYU would have gotten this game at home I think around 5,ooo people would have showed up, but too little too late. GO COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, money is the only factor in almost all of the NCAA women activities. Look at where they put their regionals, etc. The private groups have learned their lesson well.
Only partially correct:
BYU also has good fan support for Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Soccer, and Rugby, with moderate support for Track & Field, Baseball and Softball.
Women's Basketball hasn't been that well attended, but the fans would have come out for the game versus Wyoming. The problem for Women's Basketball is that it hasn't been that consistent and most of the women's games are played at the same time as the men's games -- BYU men at Utah, Utah women at BYU -- and most fans are much more interested in Men's Basketball.
Why is the game in Laramie if the Cougs finished higher in the conferenc and they have a better recored?
Just shows that we respect our women. Which is more than I can say about BYU.
Yeah well I've been to Provo....fine town...about as much fun as watching paint dry.
ATTENDANCE!ATTENDANCE!ATTENDANCE!What part don't you understand?
