What's the occupancy rate at 222 South Main?
This just goes to show that Becker is twice the man Rocky Anderson was. Rocky would still be fighting with the church about the skywalk (as well as everything else). It's nice to see a mayor of Salt Lake that's willing to join with the church in bettering the down town area. This is a much more constructive relationship.
about a self-serving ceremony and award!!! wow.... takes my breath away.
It is like bankers giving out bankers awards.
wow.
A big pat on the back to the Church for squandering tithing on business ventures. I certainly would be ashamed to use Heavenly Fathers money on a business venture but I guess we are certainly in the end of days.
Justine,
Tithing funds are NOT used for projects like the City Creek Center.
I agree to disagree with Justine.
I agree to disagree with Justine.
Justine | 7:42 p.m. you really need to get a grip
the LDS Church has an investment wing so that it can make money to do all the public services - you cant give money away if you dont have it - your comment is classic uninformed basher
(and I am not LDS)
I'm going to throw a fit any time I see someone spend their money if they haven't gotten my approval before.
SLC continues to take giant steps under Becker's leadership. We accomplish so much more when we listen, show respect and constructively challenge one another. Becker ... thanks for setting a high bar for us all.
If you disagree with how the LDS church uses it's investment funds, by all means, tell us what you are doing to boost the local economy.
City Creek Development. Instead of downing this, look at how this is going to boost the economy. Salt Lake is going to weather the economic storm.
And so will we all. Even though it hurts now, we'll all be better for it in the long run.

Please don't confuse Mormon bashers with facts.
when the Mormon Church invests in a business that runs counter to a business owned and operated by a single Mormon... who wins? How does God look at that? I thought so: crush the Mormon individual.
I am out of the state now, but I can still feel the difference from when Rocky was there. He was an obstructionist contrarian. He fought a battle on everything even if it was not with the LDS church. He cost the state so much money that I would hope the legislature would enact a bill barring him entry to the state forever.
I am excited to see the shape SLC is becoming. Home is always home.
It's great to have a progressive and forward-thinking mayor like Becker who truly has the concern of the people at the center of his agenda, rather than his own agenda. Great progress is being made. Thank you Mayor.
Re Justine
What makes you think tithing funds are being used?
It was announced long BEFORE this project started that absolutely NO tithing funds were going to be used for it. Quit your whining and do something besides waste valuable oxygen that someone else that actually is going to make a difference in our community could use.
You don't know what tithing goes for do you? You cannot be saved in ignorance you know.

Actually Clark, you need to get your facts straight, just like Justine.
The City Creek project is being funded by Property Reserve, which is the LDS church's commercial real-estate arm. This company gets its money from the profits of church-associated companies like Bonneville Communications and Beneficial Life as well as dividends and interest from other investments. Property Reserve, along with other subsidiaries like the LDS Foundation, are used to maintain the churches non-profit status by using earnings from investments to contribute to the local community.
NO TITHING MONEY WAS USED FOR THIS PROJECT!!!
Furthermore, this mall project is a benevolent action on the part of the LDS church that will create jobs, improve the image of downtown Salt Lake, and support increased commerce and tourism.
Sounds like charity to me.
