This article perfectly illustrates the reason why health care reform is necessary and now, accomplished. It's not perfect, but a step in the right direction. To those who say they don't want to pay for others, you already are through emergency room visits that are unpaid for. You will pay less now that they can go to a doctor instead of waiting until the problem is out of control. I am one happy happy girl today!
Yea, who cares if it helps people, patriot groups here in utah will threaten and draw their guns to prevent it at all costs. Wingnuts!
I'm sure that the new healthcare bill will benefit many people. But at what expense? Why don't we just hand all our money over to the government so that they can redistribute it for us. After all they know best right? I agree with the fact that we were in dire need of healthcare reform. I do not agree with the process or the end result. We could've done so much better.
As a small business owner, I hope to be able to provide decent health insurance for my employees.
We have needed this help for a long time and not fixing the system was wrong.
The Republicans put all their chips on the fear card; they made outlandish, apocalyptic predictions. Now that the bill is law and the real-life stories emerge about how this will help families in our own neighborhoods, the Republicans are going to look like the crazy guy standing on the sidewalk wearing a sandwich sign reading "THE END IS NEAR."
nice try.
This bill means one thing. less access to healthcare as premiums will increase to pay for all of these fine new unearned benefits. at-least until 2014 then the government takes control of all of our heathcare. that is right, premiums will increase on everyone, and then government will take over. we all know how good government is with our money. need an example? look at how much social security you are entitled to and how much you pay into the system. we all pay far more than we will ever get out of the systems.
This is a slap in the face of hardworking healthy Americans everywhere who have worked hard to get the jobs that have the health insurance. let alone those who have jobs that pay well but have no health insurance benefits.
not enough? look at the enforcement portion of the bill. 16,000 armed IRS agents, fines(taxes)for not buying health insurance in the thousands of Dollars. Then their is the accounting tricks to make it sound revenue neutral but results in more borrowing from social security.
sounds like good news in this economy? a black-eye for Americas
The US health care system is not perfect but is (was until yesterday) by far the best in the world! I empathise with the uninsured because I was once among them, but forcing others to foot the bill for your life is never the answer. Socialism is never the answer! It has been tried hundreds of times in history. In fact it was the first economic system established by europeans in North America- by the early settlers of Jamestown. Then, as always, it ended in the total disillusion prosperity.
It's simply incredible that I haven't read one story about the blatant overstepping of ones authority, by passing such an unconstitutional law. Every one who took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and then voted for this, should be escorted out of the Country and never allowed back. The Constitution is their to protect us, and when we disregard it, even to help someone, to the destruction of us all, who have we helped? there is not enough money in the world to be all things to all people, especially if you insert an enormous bureacracy into the middle of all this forced charity. It's time for a whole new congress and Senate. We need to act now.
The title of this article would lead you to believe that MOST utahns are for this bill. Actually, it only documents a couple of people. So i fail to see the 'news' part. I can find three people who support just about anything, but why should anyone else care? A statistic on the percentage of utahns who approve/disapprove would have been news. I'm not sure that would have suggested what these authors wanted to suggest though. Typical.
Yes, I'm so glad that the federal government is forcing me, my family, and others, to subsidize and "help" others. After all, freedom of choice and consequences of one's actions are to be disdained in federal policy. This monster take-over of one-sixth of the US economy will have diastrous long-term consequnces for the entire nation, but unfortunately, that will not be readily apparent until 2014 or beyond. Tax increases begin immediately (breaking Obama's pledge to not tax middle-income wage earners; there are at least 22 new taxes and fees that will or could hit this demographic). This Democrat bill was forced through, rammed down America's throat with kickbacks, bribes and backroom deals. It's anti-American. It's disgusting. And the few people it will "help" ---by prohibiting Insurance companies from dropping people for pre-existing conditions -- is something -- the ONE THING-- that most Republicans also supported. Repeal the monster. Keep pre-existing condition provision, and keep our private health care system which, despite problems, is the best in the WORLD. Why else did Canada's Prime Minister travel to New York for heart surgery last fall???????
Hey, I can't afford to put groceries on the table. I have to pay my cable bill, make payments on my big, flat-screen T.V. Where's the government program to help me buy food? (Oh wait, there is one ).
Cradle to grave security, provided by "Big Daddy" government.
Sold to the Obama Generation who are too young to have ever remembered SOviet/Communist promises of the same thing.
And now, with the Democrat take over health care bill, 16,000 new IRS agents (jack-booted thugs?) will descent on businesses nad individuals to enforce the new federal laws and fines on individuals and businesses.
Let the record always remember that it was the DEMOCRATS who added 16,000 new IRS agents, gave them expanded police powers, and the increased ability to snoop into your private affairs (under penalty of criminal law), require compliance with ever-changing and expanding federal mandates, impose fines on people if they don't comply, and requires people to buy insurance just by the mere fact that they BREATHE AIR!!!! (unlike auto insurance when you can decline if you don't drive).
DISGUSTING. George Orwell tried to warn us.
Is this health plan all that great? Are we not barking up the wrong tree? I spose I don't know much about it but is anything being done about the exteremly high premiums? Seems like insurance companies can charge astronomical premiums and if you can't afford it, well, tough, your employer will just have to pay for it.
Why is it that if you go to the doctor, without insurance they try to help you with reduced prices, but if you have insurance the insurance Co. gets charged a much higher price? My mother-inlaw went in for a doctor visit, "$25 please!" "Oh you have Medicare," "okay we will turn it in to Medicare, you don't have to worry about a thing mam." Later mother-inlaw gets a bill from the doctors office for the balance that Medicare wouldn't pay, $30 please!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?!
I'm glad James Stockton is getting his free insulin. I hope he thinks it's worth trading in his liberty for. Make sure you stockpile a lot of it because what the government can give, the government can take away. Why in the world is the DesNews printing this kind of propaganda piece. They are instituting socialism for crying out loud! Does anyone on your editorial board have clue? Please don't patronize us by telling us stories that justify nationalizing our health care system. Tell the truth! This bill will bankrupt our country. Please stop trying to get us to hold hands and sing kumbaya while our country is burning down around us.
Finally! After all the one sided reporting from this biased rag we get some truth. Lets keep moving and get these Utah politcos that upose basic human rights out.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness for all citizens, what a novel concept!
I pay family coverage for me and my wife, but my 22 year old daughter is not covered and it makes no sense. The bill will enable her to be covered under an existing policy.
Once when self employed, in good health and had not been to a doctor in a long time, I applied for coverage for me and my family. The insurance company accepted my wife and daughter, but would not cover me. When I asked why not, they would not give a reason to either me or my doctor. My doctor thought they were nuts. This will change under the bill.
When I ran a small business with 21 employees, I provided health insurance. My premiums went up 25 to 35 % each year, even with the average age of my staff of about 27 years old. We had huge increases every year with diminishing benefits. The bill will help in these situations.
I could go on and on about how the bill will help, in a real world way. The rhetoric from opponents is over the top and does not reflect reality. the bill is overall a good one.
many of them legitamate and truely tragic; do not answer the question of how all of this is going to be paid for. THe Obama administration claims it will save money, but these stories are taling about not using health care becasue it would cost them thousands of dollars. These thousands of dollars, adding up to millions, perhaps billions, will have to be paid by someone.
Good for these adult students who are now getting an even larger free-ride on society. Now my premiums will go up to cover them while they stay in school longer, decide to take a 1-year tour of Africa, or just work to save for a home or car. They will never pay back this ill-gotten gain. The hit is mine, the benefit theirs.
Years ago there was a very different ethic. People shunned being subsidized by others because it was seen as a hand-out, a free-ride. Then came pell grants, subsidized student loans, first-time home-buyer credits, the earned income tax-credit, subsidized school lunches, subsidized school breakfasts, etc., etc. Now we are subsidizing health care??!! Where will it stop?
We are slowly eroding opportunity and freedom in the quest for equality. And in making everyone more equal, we will lower the standard of living and the opportunities for everyone. Sad.
What about help for the insurance lobby? They're people too you know.
You just can't make it illegal for them to make money by dropping Utah's youth. There are a lot more families out there than insurance companies. We need to protect the defenseless minority groups out there like insurance companies! It should be insurance companies' choice who and who not to insure. This is a free country! Why should the government dictate who insurance companies must insure! What happened to capitalism and free agency?
Let's hope the GOP and insurance lobby can work together and overturn this socialistic legislation for the good on insurance companies everywhere -- before too many Utah families and youth learn to like the new healthcare law's benefits!
... is the reason we get short-sided legislation like this. If we were already paying for everyone's health care via emergency room visits then there would be no such thing as those without medical care.
If the government had this magical ability to out compete the private sector in healthcare, why hasn't it demonstrated that capability in any other business? Social security, medicare/medicaid, and Obamacare will bankrupt the US government in my lifetime if left unchanged.
