Provo growth can no longer be attributed to BYU families.
The schools in Provo are now around 25% minority.
It isn't the "Happy Valley" of old.
this is very interesting but i need to know #1 - 5.
to get a good picture of the information here.
Utah has a birth rate of a third world nation! This is appalling people. Where are the resources which will support all these children? Ever heard of "Zero Population Growth"? which means you only replace yourself.Utah has a history of having very low support for public schools. The people who have all these children don't like to pay taxes for their many children who attend public schools.I had two children and was able to have my children travel around different parts of the world, which gave them a correct perspective of the world. Often I talk with young people who were born and raised in Utah and have never been out of the state. Their only view of the world is a non deversified world. Very sad when you have too many children and are unable to give them opportunities which would broaden their view of the world outside of Utah.
Non mormons moving in THANK GOD
I thought this was Mr Rogers Neiborhood
you got a problem with minoritys Anonymous
So Kathy, tell me what you think about having lots of children?
I can think of a lot of things sadder
like i have always said .. orem/provo just a suburb of Los Angeles .. do we all like spending two and three light changes before we can cross a street in orem or provo ?? do we all like the parking lot affect at normal traffic ??
and with all these folks coming in .. where is the water and power coming from to support the new humans setting up camp here each day ??
currently the gov has a bill on his desk sb47 that will force all utahns to come under the power company program to shut your air conditioning system off (they say 15 minutes every 30 minutes, but could be more then that , huh??) - this is gov'ts backhanded way of not having to build another power plant ...
and then there is the water issue .. where or where is the water going to come from ??
wont be long before we all have to pack it up and move to somewhere else ... so enjoy your time here while we can ...
good luck to us all ..
Coming from a family of 6 kids...i can say that..that might have been the most boneheaded comment i've ever read on any of these boards!!! i have traveled and my family is not an upperclass family..."zero population growth" is pathedic!!! just becuase you only had 2 kids and it worked out for you...doesent mean that it is what everyone wants...move if you dont like it...we dont need people like you in our area anyways!
Unable to give children the opportunities which would broaden their view of the outside world?
I have traveled around the world several times after I left home. Most families in the US are that way, I think you might be living in you own self righteous world. Keep your opinions to yourself!!
Just thought you would like to know the outside would is not that great. (I've been there)
As for zero population growth, ask the Christians in Lebanon and the Jews in Israel how their personal demographics have and are affecting politics....scary.
Mormons are as smart as they are fertile. In a television documentary over 35 years ago out of NYC it was projected that Latinos and Mormons would be the dominant people in the nation because their birth rate is so very high. Utah serves as an up-side-down funnel. The babies pour in, grow up, disperse throughout the nation and the world, thus the leavening process.
Population growth- China openly controlled population growth for half a century and they are now realizing its folly. If two people have two kids and others have none, that means that two kids are going to have to support 3 or more people in their old age.
People are our best resource. It is from people that we get all that is good in our world - (list whoever you like: MLK, Reagan, Einstein, Gore, Mandela, Obama)-- it is the human race that will solve our problems- the more the better (and the merrier- (not to mention the joy that children bring)
It is the epitome of grade-school selfishness to lock the game once you are in.
We have warehouses full of grains and farmers that are paid not to farm. We got room- bring 'em!
"We have warehouses full of grains and farmers that are paid not to farm. We got room- bring 'em!"
I'll bet you'd be the first person who would holler if the exemptions you can claim on your taxes was capped. I'll bet you complain about how much money your family pays into the local school district to pay to educate your brood. You're probably the first to complain about the cost of health insurance while those with only a spouse pay the same monthly fee that you do.
Bring 'em only if you can afford to clothe, medicate, educate, and feed 'em. Quit relying on those with small families to subsidize your family's needs.
How many of the families in these little meccas are relying on public assistance for food and medical care.
Please please stop having so many extra kids!!!
it's not sustainable. think of what it would be like if everyone had 6-7 kids. !
It's always fun to listen to the sky is falling people when the the subject of population growth comes up. The world is a lot closer than you think to experiencing overall population decline. According to UN population studies, we will probably experience a drastic decrease in population sometime in the next 30 years or so. The trend is slower and slower and slower growth. Demographically, this trend is going to hit us pretty hard. We've never had to deal with that.
So I'm not too worried about population growth. I'm worried about the opposite.
Many first world nations are experiencing zero population growth, and need third world immigrants to fill the economic void.
Japan, Italy, Russia, Spain...etc.
Utah is doing great, and Latinos are becoming a larger factor, too.
I have four kids on the East Coast and kids bring a lot of good things to the society.
Good for Utah.
Lead the way.
The US needs continued growth.
"Have we heard of zero population growth".
Yeah, it fails.
You want us to be like China? It is not zero population growth. Part of their strength is NEW BABIES, all the time.
Folks should be allowed to have as many kids as they like as long as they can prove they can pay for them and not burden the rest of society. You want to have 10 children, great, but anything over 2 should require a special tax per child. Sorry but your not doing the world any favors by giving it more of "you", so don't expect the world to foot the bill.
