"Mandatory" to use some sort of strike indicator. Uh, nope, no law at all and if you're just hinting that you really need one no you really don't. Use ice line and a ice fishing pole and if you PAY ATTENTION you can feel the bite and catch more fish than your buddies that do use the bobbers and bells!

Do take a board to get to the firm ice! My brother and I went through the ice about 4 feet from shore and up to our waists, while my other two brothers laughed hysterically. Dirty dogs, that water was cold. Luckily, it was on the way off the ice and not going on. None the less a great day fishing!
