I'm glad she's suing those ignorant, hateful rednecks.
She's going to win - no question about - because the school administrators have absolutely no rational excuse for their boneheaded behavior.
Moreover, I'm going to send the ACLU $50 right now to help out with this suit.
Don't back down because some immoral homosexual girl threatens to sick the ACLU on you. You're doing the right thing. I wouldn't allow my kids to go to a prom with homosexuals attending. C'mon America. we've got to stand up against the homosexual agenda!
...GIRL!!!!!!!
Whatever happened to majority rules? If the majority of the people do not agree, then NO PROM should be held. Why does this girl who is a minority feel that only her rights are violated. What about the rights of the majority? Get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prom is not a right, it's a privilege. No one is entitled to having another entity host an event for their benefit.
Entitlement is the ruin of this country. Please America, just stop it.
This is part of the gay agenda -- to force their lifestyle on the rest of us. This is a moral issue; not an issue about civil rights. Homosexuality is immoral and I have a right not to have it shoved in my face.
Gays causing trouble. What's new
Same sex relationnships are wrong in the eyes of most of the people of the world. I know this relationship is not being called a marriage but it will be the next step I am sure. A marriage is between a man and a woman. If people want to call these same sex relationships "a union" that may be one way to resolve a part of their issues and let the rest of us feel the way we do and still try to get along in this modern world we live in. People who allow themselves to be desensitized by these issues are on a short track to distruction. I am no saying these people should not be allowed to have their thoughts and feelings but they should not be more important than anyone else. The prom is for dating couples of boys and girls the same as a marriage is for an man and a woman. We as a silent majority are being forced to be desensitized by the wrong ideas of the vocal minority who believe issues like this are more important. Yes we need to get along but not at the expence of what is right.
this is not about trying make a statement this is about a girl that wants to go to the prom with the person she loves, the responsibility for this is with school district they are the ones that decided to make this into a statement about their own religious beliefs and prejudices.
The school created a rule that your date for the prom could ONLY be a person of the oppsoite gender.
How foolish.
If this girl has gone to her classes, done her homework, etc. she has earned this prom for herself. And now she has to SUE the school to bring the date of her choice.
This school is without shame.
If the majority of the people do not agree....
Speak for yourself.
I do.
This girl is learning one thing. GLBTs are "entitled".
She knew what the rules were. She's known since she started at the school. Why didn't she start this process last fall? Or last year?
Why do all the rules have to be changed to her benefit? In fact, to accomodate her and those of similar mentalities, why have rules at all?
the district has every right not to hold any dances, there is no mandate saying schools must hold these events! as far as i am concerned all schools should pull these events if students don't want to abide by school dress code and standards.
'This is a moral issue....' - 8:05 a.m.
Your morals. Not mine. Mine are good with it. You have the 'right' not to see gay couples as much I have the 'right' to not see straight couples.
So, we must 1) Close Hooters 2) Ban any episodes of 'Sex in the City'. 3) Stop any wedding cerimonies and invitations 4) Deny any mention of Aniversaries. 5) Stop people from wearing wedding bands, because 90% of the time if you are married, you are straight. Etc, etc.
Does this sound reasonable?
I didn't think so either.
I think it's funny when people claim it's a 'moral' issue to even see homosexuals...
but odds are you see straight people alot more.
everyone.
It's good to see that many are tired of the in-your-face homosexual agenda. They make you feel like your all alone in your belief of traditional morals. The Utah-haters want us to believe that Utah is backward and all-alone in its majority views of traditional morals. But you forget that the South is still this way. I lived in southern state for almost a decade and I miss their unabashed, practical approach to traditional morals. This girl was welcome to the prom as long as she came met the existing rules. Why do they want to force everyone to accept their way of living? The district made the right decision -- they shouldn't cave to the girl's or ACLU's demands. I hope someone sponsors a private prom. The girl can be invited, but she must agree to the private sponsors rules. Otherwise the girl can sponsor her own prom and have a very lonely time. Life has consequences - don't be surprised by them.
You know my prom didn't allow me to wear a dress, or bring a dude as my date, or let me drink alcohol or bring drugs or come with an escort or come nude or with my mom or with a teacher or with my cousin or with a goat or blah blah blah.
Where does it end? This isn't a question of civil rights, get over it! you knew this would happen you're just trying to get your 15 min in the spotlight, and with a liberal media you got it and then some, but at the end of the day the vast majority of parents and students don't want those things, so don't ruin it for them, that's selfish.
You people against this should be ashamed of yourselves.
Wasn't it 60 years ago that black people couldn't eat at the same table as white people?
Women couldn't open a checking account?
Interracial couples were 'imorral?'
Times have changed.
With the, albiet enforced tolorence, we as a country have thrived under diversity. America, while shaky, is the last true super-power in the world.
Not beacuse of the atomic bombs we used, but because of the toloerance we create. Al Qieda would not have targeted us if we didn't have a good model to use around the world.
THIS is why America is great. THIS is why America thrives. Not because we run from adversity...
but because we face it.
There are many events held at schools which are not .... rights.
Is attending a football game, playing a sport, being in a club, not all extracurricular?
What makes a prom so different than other school activities?
Education, books, homework, if you want to define it, would be a right. Everything else is what.... denied to whomever if they happen to be gay?
If the gays are forcing the agenda on the rest of you, I don't see heteros being forced to go with a same-sex partner to a dance.
Grow up and have a decent argument for crying out loud.
Gays causing trouble. What's new.
Did you even read the article? The school chose to close the prom. The school chose to enforce what gender to bring as your date. The school is the one who is being resistant.
If you are upset about someone because they EXIST, you need to ask yourself who is causing the truble here.
And why.
