If we now care about civility and respect for others, clearly Glen Beck and Sean Hannity will no longer broadcast on KSL Radio!
This dropped my jaw because one of my best friends works for Deseret Book and has said the company seems to be drawing in under Willes, going back to serving primarily Mormons, not expanding it's national or international reach to non-LDS. I wonder which is really true.
I am so glad that they decided to clean up the KSL comment boards.. I just hope that they start on the Deseret News ones soon!!! So tired of all the trash talk
When did Glen Beck start broadcasting on KSL? He is on 105.7 KNRS. Get your facts straight. I wonder who you were listening to on KSL you thought was Glenn Beck.
Glen Beck and Sean Hannity are tame compared to what Bonneville has on the air in Seattle with the hatemonger, Michael Savage. Worse than that, the Station (AM 770) uses the moniker "The Truth." This sure seems to be a diminution of the Church's Brand.
I'm upset that Deseret Book doesn't release accurate information about their bestsellers. Mormon Times colludes by expanding the falsehood. Mormon Times' list of "top ten books that are selling in Deseret Book stores" only lists 1 non DB published book. Other rating services will show you that is not true; there are others. Deseret Book is only interested in promoting their own interests to the exclusion of the truth. Hardly sounds like "light" to me.
I'm sure this organization will do its best to advance the Republican agenda. Just listen to any Bonneville station.
And the church is not a business. Please explain this>.
I stand corrected.
Anything Mark Willes says or does will be truthful and successful.
Yes, it is a business and its business is spreading the word. What better way than by modern media
Steadily declining in influence when you consider the members vs. population ratio. May be a business but certainly not a good one.
I feel strongly like Willes that when more people are reached the light clears more darkness around the world.
I have been severely disappointed that the Church media (KSL) carries such vitriole and poison as Hannity, Beck and ?Limbaugh? I can't even LISTEN to KSL because these guys spread their poison. Doug Wright has a clearly political agenda, and it is troubling that the Church seemingly endorses the right wing agenda out of one side of it's mouth, while pretending non-partisan neutrality out of the other. I deeply hope Mr. Willes removes the Republican agenda from Church media. If we are to be a national force, we can't start out by alienating 1/2 of the population. Please, give me back the radio station and media I used to enjoy. We don't need the mean-spirited nastiness reflected by these psuedo-"entertainers." Thank you.
The LDS Church owns seven for-profit companies, one of which is Deseret Books. You can look up the other six on-line, like Beneficial Life.
Each one is profitable (revenue based) and is taxed as such. Each one has people who are employed who work just like any other worker or manager, in the private sector.
The actual Church of Jesus Christ is a non-taxed entity because it does not make profits.
The LDS Church wants to engender prosperity, primarily through spiritual means to enhance emotional and financial/physical well being. Religions are not taxed when they do not make profits but thrive through charities and volunteer hours.
But churches still pay taxes, like rent and land.
If any of this is too confusing to dichotmize, then I suppose one can read some more books on the matter.
But taxes and death are the two biggest pickles in a stable society, and I unerstand whay many are confused.
A good religion deals well with the latter. And death, yes, even THAT sacred passage, is not free of a steep price as well.
As far as the Top 10 Books list, that will take more investigating...
Thanks for comments.
Lew Jeppson - do you think that Fox News has 5 times CNN's viewership because they parrot Obama's propaganda? Why wouldn't Bonneville providing an alternative view of the MSM news help their number of listeners?
Not only will Mark Willes stand as a consistent positive leader of the Church's media organizations going forward, he has a superb reputation as a man of integrity and full commitment to adhering to enduring principles of rectitude in his past roles as an honored executive in the United States corporate world. He will truly MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
[And his wife, Laura, continues to be a great strength to him in every facet of his life!]
I listen to Glenn Beck and do not find him hateful at all. He loves America and lets us know what is going on. Unlike most on the left, he rarely uses personal attacks, but just gives the facts and then his opinion about it. I find that those who claim that conservatives are hatemongers and intolerant are generally the most hateful and intolerant people out there.
"Trusted voice of light and knowledge?" "Civility?" Please take Hannity off KSL! Even when I agree with his political views, I can't stand his spirit of contention.
I love Glenn Beck I love Hannity and I love Rush
I didn't like Glenn at first because what he said scared me.
But I decided I didn't want to live in fear anymore and to just listen to what they had to say, Which the truth is America is in trouble and we can do something to make a difference.
We can't let all the evil people in this world convince us that there is nothing we can do. But we must not stick our head in the sand and say those guys (glenn ect) are way on the other side.
More and more we are going to need the guidance of our light within to tell us who to listen to and who not to. So many people in the media are untruthfull. I really don't think that Glenn is one of them.
