I don't think the agencies should be limited to just one method BUT some of the methods should be outlawed as inhumane.

Huh!!!

Drowning, Suffocating multiple animals in one cage, shooting, are you kidding me? Aren't shelter staff supposed to be humane? What's wrong with lethal injection? I'm with the first posters, there are humane methods which would be acceptable, but some should be outlawed. Hzaven't these abandoned pets suffered enough?

Animal Lover

I think the legislators are inhumane.

Utah is a Dinosaur State

Utah proves once again that it remains in the Jurassic era where animals are concerned. So, it's okay to DROWN, SHOOT and SUFFOCATE abandoned animals??? Are you kidding me?? At least euthanasia injections are humane. These animals are in the bad spot they are in the first place because of irresponsible humans. The least we owe them is a painless, non-traumatizing death, if it does come to euthanasia.

I do applaud the bill that passed requiring shelters to contact pet owners before killing their pets--how ludicrous is it that this even has to be spelled out in law??--but allowing alternate and dubious methods of euthaniasia, such as herding animals into sheds and gassing them like one city in Utah does is despicable.

Why don't the legislators go see what inhumane euthanasia looks like. Maybe they'd change their minds. Maybe they should have their heads held underwater just long enough to see what drowning might feel like then they might think twice on be a little more humane. Is it that hard for them to see that that kind of treatment is just sick.

These people don't stop to think what it does to the psyche of the animals watching death come their way, hearing the cries of those with them (if suffocating multiples is the choice of the shelter). Course, these same people don't think animals feel or think and understand what is happening and what will be happening to them. They should put themselves in that position and see how they would feel watching those trapped with them be shot or suffocated. One thing is for certain, God's creatures are not being treated in the manner they should be.

Disgusting!

Why can't these shelters be forced to use lethal injection? Oh probably because it's too expensive! Drowning and suffocating is just cheaper so that's easier! Those poor animals! That treatment just does not make sense! I am more worried about the psychopaths that will actually perform this kind of inhumane crap!

These are the insenstive idiots that we elected to office? They should be ashamed that they have no regard for the humane treatment of shelter animals. I agree with cp. We should put all these arrogant jerks with a God complex in a cage until they can't breathe anymore. Shame on you all! May you have many sleepless nights ahead of you.

Sue

What are you legislators thinking? What are you teaching our youth? These precious animals have suffered enough and now you want kill them in any way deemed fit? This is dispicable! These animals are Gods creatures we here to love and take care of them, it's not their fault that people don't care of them as they should they are not a piece of garbage they have feelings. Do any of you legistlators have a conscience? Or are you just insenstive and arrogant to how pain feels or anything else for that matter? Maybe you need to have a taste of what you think is humane, it takes 3 to 5 min. to drown, gas & suffocate an animal, read your stats on this!! You call this humane!! This is a horrible death, and its beyond belief that you can put this into law. I can only hope that the people in the shelters or anywhere else never resort to this kind of killing, they deserve to be treated with love and kindness even if this was the only way to have piece for them. I hope that all of you have many sleepless nights ahead of you.

So. It's a felony in UT for u or me torture a pet, but the staff of public "shelters" can drown or shoot unwanted pets? The consequences of our legislators inbred mentality are horrifying!

carl

Animals are animals, not people, if you want to adopt them, go ahead, instead of criticizing others.
Maybe they should make a law against hoeing weeds in the garden. That's got to hurt!

Jay

Were are all the animal right groups like Peta??
They should post the names and pictures of every person that voted for this next too a picture of michael Vick they are the same. Politicans are discusting people!
