Phoenix Ute

This is why Rock isnt a good writer. He says the utes had a disappointing year last year with a 10-3 record. Nobody in Ute Nation was expecting another 13-0 season and the team was picked 3rd in preseason rankings for the MWC. They lost a ton of talent and started the season with qbs that had never thrown a Div 1 pass. They lost 3 games on the road vs Oregon who went to the Rose Bowl, at TCU the team that had a perfect regular season and went to the fiesta bowl. The they lost at byu vs a qb that was 6 to 7 years older then Wynn and lets not forget Byu was talking national championship after week 2.

How was the 2009 season disapponting? Byu was expected to win the MWC and Max Hall was a Heisman candidate according to the y fans. I would argue Byu had more of a disappointing season then the utes based on all the Nat Championship talk and some very good senior players.

Maybe Rock should do some research once in a while.

Happy to keep Brian in the program. I'm sure he'll turn out to be a great recruiter and show many other athletes the potential they can find in themselves by coming to the U. I'm glad we've successfully recruited Brian a second time.

easy Phoenix Ute

I'm a Ute fan also and I thought it was a good article, giving a lot of love to Johnson and the Ute program considering it's the D-news. You have to remember ybu is still trying to rationalize that their best football and basketball teams ever, only finished 2nd in the conference this season. They're scared to death that their going to go one and out (yet again) in the NCAA tourney with their all-time winningest team.

Hmmm, "like pairing Vanilla Bean ice cream with chocolate sauce." Nice one BR, but maybe a little too literal.

Kristi

Love, love Brian Johnson!! I agree with HawaiUte; I'm glad we got him a second time.

Big Ben

Having Brian Johnson back brings a winning attitude. Brian Johnson was the most cerebral quarterback i have ever watched at the college level. Not the best, but the most cerebral. I cant wait to put this lousy basketball season behind us and get on to the real stuff!

In seriousness, I think we have to worry about PITT and TCU, but thats it. With the way Whit prepares his guys, if they work hard, we can have a successful season.

Moroni

It's great to have Brian around the program. I think he'll do wonders for recruiting in Texas. I for one wasn't disappointed at all with last season, considering everyone we had to replace. The future looks bright in Uteville.

DanSM

Happy for Brian. Glad he could do camps for us/Sports Mechanix last year. Great to see him coach & train young kids and excited to see him have success at Utah for the years to come.

Brian's a great guy and being the QB coach at Utah is a perfect fit for him since he loves to teach the game. Brian could be key to Jordan Wynn's future success at Utah. We'll miss ya this year at our camps. Excited to have Jordan Wynn at our camps this year. Go Utes!

Hey Big Ben

You will definately need to worry about UNLV beating the yewts again 27-0.

Re: Hey Big Ben

I think it is a team south of SLC that needs to worry about UNLV this year.

The best part of this article, Fiesta and Sugar Bowl banners hanging in the practice facility. I'm sure Cougartown still has the "quest for perfection" banner hanging up somewhere to break it out when they actually acomplish something!

Brian Johnson - Sugar Bowl MVP and new QB Coach

Max Hall - Cricket Wireless top sales representative in 2010.

who?

Who is Gomez and Eggar? Never heard pof them?

Max Hall - Cricket Wireless top sales representative in 2010.

Ok, that was funny LOL!

Re: 9:52 a.m.

There's a little QB named Drew Brees who just won the Super Bowl.

Max Hall is a lot like him.

Cougar Fan

I think Brian Johnson is what Utah football is all about. I think he will make a great offensive coordinator and head coach someday.

PolyCougar

I spent some time with Brian Johnson when he first came here, and he razzed me a little about being a die-hard Cougar. But I've had a hard time meeting a more impressive and mature person... ever. Morgan Scalley is another friend of mine, and the class that those two carry is great for that coaching staff, and overall identity of the program.

I loved watching Brian Johnson play, just because (after all the injuries that stole some of his athleticism) you knew he wasn't the best on the field, but "willed" his team to wins. I hate to see great leaders miss out on furthering their careers. I had the same problem with Steve Sarkisian not getting much of a shot at the NFL, granted things have worked nicely for Sark, and I see the same kind of success in Johnson's future if he sticks with coaching.

Good article on a great guy.

Big Ben

Hopefully, johnson can figure out how to impart his wisdom to these guys. I hope he gets play calling duties soon. It sure is nice to not have to deal with Ludwig ever again.

bout time

I said the day they won the Sugar Bowl that if I had the opportunity I would hire Brian Johnson as my QB coach. Smart, hard worker. Will represent the Utes and Coach Whit with nothing but class and determination to make the Utes successful.

manaen

Count me as another Cougar who hopes the best for Brian Johnson. He hurt us on the field but I had to respect how he did it. I like PolyCougar's analogy with Steve Sarkisian; I hope for similar success for Brian -- in some conference that doesn't include BYU!

Blue Goggles

As a cougar fan, I remember watching a young Brian Johnson in 2005 against TCU and being very impressed--and worried. I was sad for him with the injuries and disappointed he didn't get much traction in the pros--especially after such a thorough dismantling in the Sugar Bowl. But everything I've seen from him has the stamp of quality. When on the field he made the most of everything he had. He's stepping into a big role for such a young guy, but I'll be pulling for him. Big props to him cousin Mike Reed for bringing class to the BYU-Utah rivalry.

Gald

Very Glad Brian was able to get a job at Utah, heaven knows he couldn't make it in the NFL as even a 3rd string QB. We will see who end up getting paid more Brian Or Max Hall. One this is for sure both will make more than most fans do in a life time.

Just wondering which is better a job at Cricket?? or the job u have at the drive up??? just saying.
