Let's look at this - and I quote - "Sen. Bob Bennett says that higher taxes proposed by the Obama administration on the oil and gas industry will chase them off federal lands in Utah. But Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says increases would simply give taxpayers long overdue fair payments."
The only reason Sen. Bob Bennett (the RINO) is flipping out over this on the news is because the oil and gas industry did not feed his deep pocket's deep enough with re-election monies, because he did NOT add in enough earmarks and pork to the Bill's they wanted written. With him it's all about money. It's time to NOT re-elect that RINO Sen. Bob Bennett in 2010, no matter how hard he looks like he's really trying. He's not. That's my views.
Bob Bennett is such an arrogant senator that in 1994, when the United States Senate considered letting the masses park in their parking spots at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport, Bennett joined Joe Biden and voted against the idea. Even Barbara Boxer voted in favor of letting the public in.
Bob Bennett Must Go
Arlen Specter, Jay Rockefeller, Jim Jeffords, Bob Packwood, Chris Dodd, and Bob Bennett that's classy company Utah.
Obama is good on some of his promises, especially those concerning energy. He said "under my plan energy prices would necessarily skyrocket." Why is he and his cohorts trying to destroy our country and make life a living hell for everybody?
We live in the Uintah Basin, and rigs having been pulling out of here since the beginning of last year, many of them headed for North Dakota or Pennsylvania. It is expensive for the oil companies to produce oil here, due to the long delay from application to actually receiving the leases. The government is sitting on many approved and paid for leases, but they haven't released them. I'm not sure why, but it sure slows things down. This is our livelihood here, plus the curtailment of drilling hurts other industries and retailers in the area. Our nation needs to become energy independent, and yet there are so many roadblocks being thrown up to prevent it.
Bro. Chuck, I don't know Bennett's reasons for protesting at this time, but I agree with what he is saying. We live here, we see the daily effects of people losing their homes, selling everything they have to make ends meet, just wanting to work.
Say what you will about Bennett, but he is right on this one. Those that are against what he is trying to do are those that have money to play with or are just not very bright when it comes to economics.

From what I understand the refineries in SLC are running at capacity, and as a result, much of our oil is being refined out of state (since its so expensive to build new or remodel "old" refineries).
I think your concerns for the Uintah Basin are well founded, but I would think ANY Senator representing Utah would be trying what Bennett is trying - without the accompanying fanfare.
Bennett is doing ALL HE CAN to stay in the news, hoping Utah residents will "forget" the bad things he has done to Utah (amnesty for illegals, and free taxpayer money for banks)
I am not a fan of RINO Bob and I won't be voting for him this year, but he is right on this issue.
I hate Bennett. Even if he is right on an issue.
Salazar said, however, "Our job, as I see it as the secretary of Interior, is to make sure that taxpayers are getting a fair return." He said increases proposed are fair and affordable.
Gee looking out for the interest of the TAX PAYER NOT the OIL COMPANY
Horrible just horrible
He noted the 12.5 percent royalty paid on federal lands by oil and gas producers has been the same since the 1920s.
Just the way the Oil Companies like it and coincidentally a date the Utah Legislature has set as a goal to set our clocks back to in Utah.
Bennett Doing the work of Big Oil.
After all any money he can save the
Company goes to the republican
"Leave only scorched Earth" campaign.
Once again we are being treated to profound policy pronouncements from Bob Bennett. He knows the players, he knows the issues and he knows the rules. SO far, that is all good stuff.
Now, let's see what Bennett has actually DONE with his knowledge, power and seniority on this issue and so many others.
Not much to show for all his years in the Senate, is there? Except for keeping the family Senate seat warm, and enjoying the perks, and occasionally pretending to be sort of conservative when he is back in Utah to visit before returning home to Washington DC.
Tell us, "Bailout Bob," what have you actually DONE to stop Salazar's park schemes? Or so support Sen. Bunning's attempt to have the Senate follow its rules and actually find funding before spending an additional 10 BILLION dollars?
Bennett has DONE nothing, but he sure says a lot, at least now that so many people recognize his ineffectiveness in office.
Texas can charge more because they have higher quality oil. It also seems like a royalty that hasn't been adjuted for inflation for 90 years needs to be revisited. With oil creeping towards $90/barrel it seems that taxpayers a due some more of that pie.
i'm sure the Obama administration will stick to its promise to keep the process open. They'll not send secret memos, and they'll bring in CNN to document the proceedings.

Reply: Bob Bennett is such an arrogant RINO senator, he has in his hip pocket's Arlen Specter, Jay Rockefeller, Jim Jeffords, Bob Packwood, Chris Dodd, and Bob Bennett that's classy company Utah. United States Senate considered letting the masses park in their parking spots at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport, Bennett joined Klingon Joe Biden and voted against the idea. Even Barbara Boxer voted in favor of letting the public in. He's NOT for the people of Utah. He's in it for himself and PAC's along with Union's and special interest. Bob Bennett Must Go in 2010. He's running people out of Utah, not in it.
I think Bennett may have other reasons to give big oil a free ride on public lands in Utah, perhaps more personal. I beleive the oil industry is getting enough at the pump that they should be paying more to remove OUR oil from OUR land. In know on the Uinta National Forest, they have drilled, closed up the holes, but not abandoning them, and left a mess where they were. I also know of an oil pipe running across the state from the Rosevelt area to Salt Lake City, with scares left across national forest lands, and as far as I know it no longer carries oil, but is still kept clear of trees. I have wondered about fees paid for exclusive use of hundreds of miles of that public land as well as the pounding the trucks give Utah roads, when they have that pipeline. Yes, I think oil companies should pay more to us (U.S.) for that use. That's brings in to question Bennetts motives.
Here is all you need to know about Salazar:
77 leases were issued after seven years of study. Everyone had a seat at the table including environmentalists. Immediately upon seizing power, the Salazar puppet in the Obama administration canceled all of the leases. He said at the time that he was canceling the leases because they had been rushed through.
That tells us more than we need to know, seven years of study for oil leases is rushing it through. But at the same time everything else this administration does has to be done NOW before anyone can even read it, even though it doesn't take effect for 3 more years.
OH yea, remind me how much of the stimulus money which had to be passed immediately has yet to be spent? And how many jobs in non-existent districts has it created?
Also, we have had contingencies from Uintah county travel to Washington DC to speak to Salazar only to have him cancel the appointment after they arrived there and refuse to see or speak to them.
Welcome to Chicago-style politics, America.
is helping with the turnover of government officials. Trying to put in as many progressives as possible. I have nothing to do with the oil and gas market here in the Uintah Basin, but it's obvious you bring in big companies (giving them perks at times) so you can have jobs. The Uintah Basin is wasting away, and that lies squarely on the shoulders of Obama and his minions. Taxing the bigger companies more will keep them out, and those that don't stay out, it won't matter anyway, because we will not see that money. It will be wasted on the Acorns of the world to distribute the wealth making everyone rely more fully on the government, making that government larger, more powerful until it makes us slaves to it. It's a sad time.
@ SGale
You say that it is OUR oil from OUR land. How much oil are YOU going to drill? You do not have the ability of pumping one drop on your own. YOU need the oil companies, who do have that ability to get YOUR oil out. If the oil is partially mine, I WANT IT. But the present administration is keeping it from ME.
What land are you talking about being OURS? Is it the same land that the present administration is secretly trying to tie up, to restrict access, in the name of preservation?
Face it, YOU'd have no oil if it weren't for the oil companies. YOU cannot produce one drop. WE have absolutely no control over the land that you claim to be OURS.
I'm surprised we have to argue this issue with fellow Utahns. Do you want to pay more for gas or less? Or the same?
In the Basin, the oil and gas is our livelihood. And all that is produced goes to SLC. If you want the prices to go up, side with Salazar and Obama. If you want to see them have a chance of staying the same, side with Bennett.
Now for your anti-Bennett guys: do you think any of the contenders in this race would go toe to toe with Salazar on this? And be effective? I don't see it.
6 of which were under the old administration, but it is the last 1 that we now have a problem with? The logic that the RINO calling crowd uses, selectively ignoring history, excusing their own faithful, and blaming the new administration, seems just a little bit ironical and lacking a whole lot of credibility. So what happened in those previous 6 years when the Bush administration was in the drivers seat... ? Obviously this isn't a republican vs democrat, or real republican vs. RINO issue. But the way it is made out to sound, everyone was rolling in oil dollars up until late January last year, and then dudes in the black hats just rolled into town and shut the show down.
"Bob's right" - I want cheap gas - but that is "our" land they are drilling on. I want us to get fair value from an asset they are taking advantage of. Someone needs to be asking if we are getting fare value - what ever that number is. If it was your personal property, would you not want to make sure you are get fair value from the oil companies?
Every thing this administration does is against private industry That’s why unemployment stays so high. They wont be happy until gas prices gets to be 10 dollars a gallon so they can sell the little cars that government owned GM is building. and much will come from increased taxes on gas to pay for the big spending as they bale out one company after another, With our tax dollars. These people running the Government don't have any Idea how to get our people working again You don’t kill the goose that lays the Golden egg
