Well gee Dick, you are so enlightening. Look at the history of upsets and the odds are that they won't meet. Everyone keeps forgeting the home court advantage that UNLV enjoys every year at this tournament. If they meet then I would be the first to jump for joy but odds tell me that it won't happen. Tournament time is the best time for upsets. I do want BYU to win it all so lets see what pans out. Maybe you can come back and either retract the statement or say....I told you so.
SDSU took New Mexico to overtime at the Pit. UNLV has already beaten BYU at home. Both schools are playing for the NCAA tournament lives. I expect BYU and New Mexico to have very tough second round games.
if the cougars get new mexico I will bet on the cougars after getting snubbed in the player of the year and also coach of the year. I hope it happens cause cougars have a chip on the shoulder. jimmer is going to go off in this tourney
Harmon doesn't know (his first name). He's been seeing out of blue goggles since the moment he was born. I didn't even read the article, all I had to do was read the first paragraph and realize what he was going to say. Forgetting UNLV and SDSU Harmon? That's a joke.
the answer is NO, for several reasons...
1. Utah cannot beat UNLV the way Utah is playing lately.
2. UNLV does NOT lose to BYU on its home court.
3. Even if BYU does pull off the upset over UNLV on UNLV's home court for the first time in Rose's head coaching career then BYU has to beat the referees who took both games away from BYU in the regular season vs. New Mexico.
4. and if you need another reason, Jimmer is still suffering from mono which BYU will not admit to. he keeps having relapses which they disguise as stomach flu or whatever...
The MWC voters just ticked off BYU's team. They will be pumped to prove a few things in the tourney. Thanks, guys!
"Count on it? No..."--UNLV did not beat BYU. UNLV did beat NM at NM, however.
With the potential of SDSU and UNLV playing on their home floor??? Just silly!
San Diego State and UNLV in Saturday's championship game. Count on it.
SDSU played NM into OT at the PIT and beat them in San Diego. SDSU loves playing in Vegas. SDSU also needs this victory for an NCAA birth.
It took 2 JT threes and 6 UNLV TO in the final 3 min to beat the Rebels in the MC. The game at the T&M was never in doubt. UNLV handles BYU because UNLV has much quicker guards that causes BYU to shoot contested 3s. It could be interesting now that BYU found and inside game with Davies, but UNLV also gets their two best rebounders back in Jasper and Shaw.
And the reason UNLV shot so well in that game was the same reason TCU shot so well. BYU has poor defense. The difference, UNLV doesn't turn the ball over like TCU does. I expect UNLV to pull this one out as well.
UNLV is going to deliver an even bigger win over BYU than it did the last time these 2 teams met. BYU will NOT be in the championship game and with UNM's matchup challenges against SDSU, it's possible they won't be in the championship game either.
I love NM, but I can see SDSU-UNLV in the final. but then again who knows, thats why they play, we watch. but I don't think BYU can beat UNLV at the Mack. just saying. Happy March everyone.
Check your facts, UNLV 88, BYU 74 on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. For Dick to put BYU past the Rebels and into the championship game that easily is ludicrous. The Cougars simply have never matched up well with UNLV, EVER!!! and in Vegas UNLV will probably either be favored, or it will be very close when it comes to a line. What Dick should have written was that he hopes BYU makes it as everyone knows "He bleeds Cougar Blue" (worst billboard EVER for a journalist by the way) at least we know Rose won't be going off on Harmon for not covering his team enough.
This is a sure thing ONLY if BYU doesn't need to play UNLV. In other words, Utah, you just might show some worth this season if you can beat them for the Cougs. Also, BYU will have fun destroying you again. If that doesn't happen, then maybe BYU still has a chance but those pesky Runnin' Rebels sure cause the Cougars problems. Then BYU and UNM can play again, and it will be one of the best MWC finals ever.
I think the final will be TCU vs. Air Force. Count on it!
I'm as royal blue as they come (it should still be our color), but I can't believe that Dick is penciling in UNM and BYU in the final. Does he have any idea who we have to beat to get there? Does he have any idea how well the Rebs play on that floor against us? Does he have any idea how badly UNLV need that win? No. 2 seeds don't always beat 3 seeds on their floor and 1 seeds don't always beat 4 seeds.
Dick dont start counting your chicks before they hatch. BYU needs to play well in all areas of the game. here are my concerns heading for the tournament. 1- dribble penetration. Darius Gray is the reason NM beat BYU twice. In both games he constantly beat his man off the dribble making the defense rotate, then he hit open men who knocked down shots, and if they missed the defense was out of position to rebound and NM killed BYU on the offensive glass especially in Provo. If Gray and/or Willis from UNLV get into the paint the Y may be out quickly unless they shoot the ball well. 2- Rebounding. You have to control the glass. Dont give NM or UNLV extra possession cuz that will kill you. They have too many scorers and if you give them another chance it will haunt you. 3- Shot selection. BYU likes to launch 3's. if they arent falling go to the rim and get to the line. make an extra pass to the open man. taverni hasnt seen a shot he wont take. byu is deadly in transition get out and run.
Come Dick wake up and smell the roses , you know the only chance for a BYU UNM matchup on Saturday is if Utah pull off the HAT Trick and sweeps UNLV. When was the last time your Cougars won in Las Veagas against the Rebels? You must be thinking JJ or Bronco's teams becasue Dave Rose has never won in Vegas against Vegas. This is why you are an editor and not a reporter of facts.
UNLV does not need to beat BYU to get into the NCAAs, they are in. Take away the two ute loses and they have a far superior resume then even BYU. Lunardi has them as a 7 seed now, even before the MWC tournament.
Take away the 2 Ute losses? Why? You lost to Utah, twice. Impressive. If we give you the 2 ute losses, you give us the 2 UNM losses, and we're 30-2 right now and we're staring you down the barrel of a shotgun with the MWC championship already in the bag. So yeah, take the 2 ute losses.
This is the year we beat you Rebels on their home court and beat them so badly, their pathetic set of fans cause fighting in the stands long before halftime.
3-0 this week baby!
