Anybody can go and make all the comments at the meeting that you might want, but have you not heard the spokesperson for Jordan District say while being interviewed after every news story about the district that "It is too late". Everything has already been decided, they are just waiting to put things into place afer everyone cools down.
Now they do not want to hear from all of us, either. It's time to clean house and vote in a new school board. Maybe then they will get the message.
Isn't their job to represent the students, parents and teachers of Jordan District? Maybe we should get rid of Newbold and save 8 teachers jobs - and 10 more with his "assistants" salaries. They definitely don't have US in mind. Totally DISGUSTING!!!
I will cast my vote - Get rid of those in the Administration that don't have TIME for the PEOPLE that they ARE SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT!!! Any way to get a petition going to clean house????? I know plenty that would like to sign it!!
Those asking for increased taxes in the Jordan District don't speak for me. It's time for parents to take more responsibility for educating their children. I don't mind paying my share - but as a non-user of the school system don't look to me for more money. It's the parents place to fund the school system that they use. It's time to change our tax structure so that those using our schools are paying for that use. I agree, it's time to clean house in the Jordan District from the board, to the superintendent, to the administrators.
You would think that enduring a couple of hours of public comment is the least the Jordan Board could do for affecting the livelihood of 500 people. But no ...
I agree with what Don't Tax Me said. If you don't have a child in the school system, then you shouldn't have to pay for other people's children. And I also think we need to vote out these ridiculous administrators who are unwilling to cut their hundred thousand dollar salaries to help the district out. I can't wait for election time.
When you were a student in the public education program were you against taxing people who don't have children in school? Of course you should be taxed. A modern society needs an education system that all people must help subsidize. Otherwise social collapse is inevitable. Don't want to be taxed? Go buy an island somewhere.
I agree with Tax Mama! We need a good education system to compete on the world stage. Regardless of whether you have children or not, YOU recieved an education, and one way or another society's dollars helped provide you with that education.
The bigger issue with JSD is that the administration is bloated and needs to be cut. There also needs to be a way to better control the way properties are taxed. Too many businesses get "incentives" to locate here; incentives which the school districxt signs off on. That means the residents are the ones who are paying the property tax bill - not the big businesses. Small business pays their share. We are told "it's only for ten years they will receive the incentive, and look at the jobs they will bring." Jobs mean income tax. State income tax is 100% dedicated to education, but not necessarily dedicated to the district where the taxes come from.
If you consider yourself a non-user of the school system, you'd be a hypocrite to accept any Social Security income. Or, do you expect to only receive privileges from society without taking any responsibility?
The administration needs to go!! If they don't want to support our children. Why did Jordan School district get stuck with Newbold in the first place. I would sign a petition to get rid of the people on the school board as well as the administration. Teachers are needed way more than they are.
I agree with Don't tax me. I was never against supporting the education system. I am however agianst supporting a family that has 6-7-8-9 children. I support having a usage tax education. I am not against paying a fair share of the tax buden for schools and educaiton. I am also ready for a new school board.
This lot needs to be thrown out. To do so, we need to organize and put up one good credible alternative candidate in each voter district. If we don't name recognition will win every time.
And while we're at it...the board should revisit administration salaries and peg them at an average of all other districts in the state. No way all the heads of departments in our district should make more than the city managers of every one of our cities in the district.
I TOTALLY agree! We need to form a grassroots movement to replace the school board with candidates that will actually represent our interests and create more transparency for tax payers. We deserve to know where our money is going and know whether or not is has been spent wisely. We have to do this or our taxes will go through the roof with nothing to show for it.
For years the school boards, PTA, UEA, and district administrators have had the sort of "cozy" relationship that they all work together to "help students". When it comes time to raise salaries of administrators, build "taj mahal" schools, etc., all of them do EXACTLY the same thing. Just go to taxpayers and tell them they need EVER MORE MONEY "for the kids".
This issue has been a good wake-up call for parents, (not only in the JSD)that NOT ALL of the money is REALLY going to "the kids", (unless you consider administrators making 6 figure salaries "the kids")!
Hopefully parents will now get more involved and "watch over the shoulders" of their school board, because the school board REALLY NEEDS TO BE WATCHED!!
Hey Don’t Tax Me — Who paid for your schooling? Just because you don’t have kids in school doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have to pay taxes. Maybe you should look at it that you are just now paying for your own education. You didn’t pay a penny when you were 5 years old. You old farts that think that because you don’t have kids or they are out of the school system and you shouldn’t have to pay taxes for the education of a new generation are greedy.
And Too Taxed — Just because someone has 10 kids doesn’t mean they should pay more. Those 10 kids will be paying for your Social Security. If you had just 1 kid then you only have 1 contributing in the future. Those 10 kids need good educations paid for by all of us so they can have good jobs and be tax payers paying for what we all need in the future.
