Obama said he would leave it up to us and he is.

Now, what did the Repubs do in the 8 years they had control?

Utah Lawyer

Anyone who follows legal matters in Utah knows that Scott Matheson's name has been floating around for this nomination for months. It was hardly a surprise to read about it yesterday. One reason he is such a good nominee (in additiont to his impeccable credentials) is that Sen. Hatch is friendly with the Matheson family and likely to ledn support - - or at a minimum withhold opposition. This has nothing to do with health care. Nothing.

I wouldn't put it past the president look what he did for Ben Nelson in Nebraska!

Thorn

utter corruption. Matheson should resign immediately. Stand up and get mad PEOPLE!

Easy to prove

I'm confident that Rep. Matheson is being above board, saying that he will not be influenced by these gestures (whether they are inticements from the administration or completely coincidental). He can prove this simply by voting against the bill.

Another Utah Independent

Anyone who believes this needs to grow up and maybe go back to school. These things take time and not at the spur of the moment!

As Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

While the political arena is swimming in corruption, not every nomination is a results of a conspiracy! SHEESH!

I'm a big fan of Jim and Scott they are the only 2 Democrats I have ever voted for, but this stinks. Jim needs to vote against the health care bill or he lost my vote (as well as most of the Cedar City/Southern Utah University constituency). I've been surprise to hear how fired up people are about this - considering that the story broke yesterday. I wonder what the president is going to offer Jim for his vote, obviously he's giving his brother a gift but what will Jim get after he loses his Congressional seat?

Can't understand....

why Jim Matheson doesn't see how fishy this looks. He's one of the few democrats to vote no before now. Obama has him to the White House and then announces Scott Matheson's nomination. YES it looks fishy. Obama could have held off on this nomination. He didn't have to do it right now while he is pushing health care so hard and just as the democrats are fighting for the votes they need.
Nothing is done in Washington without thinking it through. Obama knew what he was doing. So why is Matheson so upset at people for putting two and two together.

This Is Digusting

The trash talking that the RR's(racist right) group here in Utah spews from their trashy mouths is unbelievable. I am proud to be a native born and raised in this state 70 years ago, but "TOTALLY" embarrassed to read the hate that comes from the republican righties. What is wrong with you ding a lings? Are you people proud of the mess your party left us in and all of your fear mongering tatics? Do you think this mentality is proper? Does it do you "NO" people any good to lie, cheat, and threaten? Where's you reasoning gone? Where would we be today with a victory in the last election and have a McDuff-Palin administration? On a continued dive into the sewer? Yes I think so!

U R Kidding, Right?

So Obama says that he is NOT handing out Judgeships to wavering reps brother's in return for their vote. Guess that settles it. Seriously who doesn't see past this? So much for transparency!

Dumb Theory

I can't stand Obama, Matheson or the Democratic party as a whole, but I don't for a minute think that Obama is trying to buy Rep. Matheson's vote. His brother is certainly qualified to serve on the bench and I'm not going to criticize Obama's selection unless the selectee is utterly incompetent. Is Judge Matheson liberal? Of course, but a Utah liberal is probably a moderate conservative in most states and I'm sure he'll do well on the bench. Even if Obama was trying to buy Rep. Matheson's vote, I don't know that it will work and at the end of the day we end up with a competent judge on the tenth circuit. Who cares?

Jim Sucks

Stinky...very stinky. Jim will wait to "decide" on the Health Care bill until the 11th hour to see if the Dems need his vote or not...spineless!

lacrosse

I don't believe Rep. Matheson at all. Timing IS everything and this looks like a vote bought.

duck duck goose

If it walks like a walks like a duck and talks like a duck, its a duck.

Obama

has been making a lot of remarks even before his election that I bristled at. He made references to things in the Proclamation to the World and almost quoted lines from LDS Church hymns. It looks to me as if he wants Utah in his pocket. He is bringing the candy and the flowers and next it'll be the jewelry.

ghl

One wonders if they could possibly be so brash but there has been no embarrassment over many other Chicago-politic tactics. Obama said at line point in a meeting back a few - "don't think we're not taking notes" -or words to that effect. I am beginning to think that with him it is, always smile but don't table the knifes.

Funny

All that corruption in eight years and People want to throw Matheson under the bus! thats funny

Cosmo

Obama not trying to buy vote.... are they kidding?
If you believe that, then i'm George Washington. :-)

Dan

I am inclined to believe Matheson - but considering the slimy bribes provided in the health care fiasco so far (Nebraska, Florida, Louisiana), it is not unthinkable and the timing is odd.
