jay welk is utahs best high school coach! i dont see anyone stopping the darts
I think Welk is a great coach, but I don't know about best in the State. Todays game against WJ should be another good game. WJ and Davis have a really good rivalry going in the playoffs.
Go Darts!
Blake has been making a difference every game in ways that you would never see in the box score. He is the best of the ball defender I have ever seen. I think we are just starting to see Blake hit his stride.
Blake has been making a difference every game for the Darts in ways that never shows up in the box score. He is the best off the ball defender I have every seen and now looks like he is starting to hit his stride offensively. Look out the kid is for real.
I loved the game last night, it was very competetive. It was two very tough teams competing until the end. The gym was packed, the kids played hard, and there were several lead changes.
This game was won at the free throw line. Davis spent the whole second half at the line, both teams played tough the whole game.
Congrats to both teams!
Wilding needs some playing time.
A bit much about Blake, however Welks a good coach.
If you've played under jay welk as i have, you would see that he is the states best head coach, look at the darts since he took over 19 years ago or so, he is legit, just like the past 5 years this davis team has been legit, the darts road to the finals is in their favor, it might be their year!
24 fouls to 12.. I'm glad I wasn't at the game to watch. I may have been frustrated for a team I don't even care about. Is it really possible that the fouling was that lopsided? What would have happened if the fouls were even? would Jordan have blown Davis out on their home court?
If this game was played at Weber i think the outcome would've been different. But Davis made more free throws and that won the game for them. Too bad Goldsmith fouled out, he's a great player. Vanweezep made some great floaters which really helped his team out. But I can't wait til 2:15 when Davis plays WJ! Should be a great game.
Viewmont man, be glad you were not there. It was extremely frustrating. Our kids played their guts out though, so we are proud of them despite the outcome.
When you are launching 3's from all over they court and not going to the basket, you are not going to get the fouls called. The biggest play of the game was #1 losing his cool and getting a T. 5 point turnaround.
The foul count sounds about right based on the rest of the article. It sounds like Jordan was content hoisting up 3's, while Davis took the ball inside. When you take the ball inside you're going to draw contact. When you stand outside the arc all night your not going to get fouled much.
Maybe you should be frustrated with your own teams inability to move on in the playoffs.
Welk, best coach in the state? Just ask him. A guy named Yerkovich doesn't seem to be too bad. Ask Welk in a couple hundred wins.
Jordan played a great game, with the exception of #1. I hate to call out a high school kid, but dang... One of two things had to be the case, either their bench is really light, or he usually makes those 3's he was chucking up. He was threw up a fall away 3 with no one contesting him, there was one shot that had to be from 10 feet behind the 3 line. Then there was the fated T that cost them a chance at the end. If your going to wear #1 you had better be number 1, throwing a tantrum at the ref is not how you become number 1.
Fan was right, the reason for the foul discrepency was Davis was pounding it inside, and Jordan was shooting jumpers and 3's.
I enjoyed the game. Jordan played very well. Nobody has mentioned the triangle and 2 that Davis used for the first 3 quarters. Tight defense on two players and really (REALLY!) soft on the other three players Risky move by Davis that worked.
As a Davis fan I must admit that there was some home cooking (earned with first place tie in region), but most of the foul difference happened in the first 3 or 4 minutes of the third quarter when the game was tight. Other than the intentional fouls to finish the game, the fouls were about even in the 4th quarter. The penalty situation was key. The technical only cost Jordan 1 point as Davis missed one of the two shots and did not capitalize on the extra possession.
Did you realize that Jordan was in the game because mero was shooting threes. And he shot 8 in the last two minutes so most of his were good shots. And did you really just call out one individual player? You should be ashamed. His tech wasn't as bad as all of you are making it. He got shoved to the ground and it was a no call. He played well. Get off his back.
Jordan coach got to caught up with the foul count disparity and got upset. Players sensed this also and started to get frustrated also. Jordans play totally showed this truth! When the foul count was 8-2 with about 3 minutes left in the 3rd, Jordan was only down by 5. the continued to throw up 3's to no avail, giving Davis the opportunity to get fouled and pull away. I watched #1 throw up a three from almost 10ft behind the 3 point line and it clanked off the front of the rim. Davis got a quick rebound, transitioned down the floor quickly and got fouled. With NO inside presence, Jordan couldn't even rebound! Jordan deserved to lose with the game plan of the 2nd half. In the 1st half, I really think that Jay welk was worried that Davis might lose this game. Jordan wiped those fears away when they were content to shoot 3's all of the second half. Davis had a great game plan as well. Like the article says, Welk knew that Jordans bench was thin, and that if he got the starters into foul trouble, he'd win.!
Great game by both teams. It's just to bad that the ref's had to get in the way. And i don't know if anybody noticed but at halftime coach Welk was over in the corner chewing out the ref's.. I'm not saying that was the reason for the huge difference in fouls but i bet it had something to do with it. Mero does normally hit the shots he missed last night and a hand full of those 3's came really late in the game. It was to bad Goldsmith had to foul out so early in the 4th. He's a great player and Jordan could've used him late in the game. And Jordan actually did a really good job of mixing it up going inside and outside. They just weren't getting some calls. But the Davis boys played well and hit their shots. Congratulations to both teams on a good year.
Jordan has a right to get upset with the foul count. it was 10-2 at one point and that was not because of Jordan's lack of inside presence. They were getting the ball inside and did clearly get fouled at times with no calls by the ref's. even if you are a Davis fan you have to agree that there were a few obviously fouls committed by Davis that never got called. but good game by both teams.
