Rich has to be the favorite as they handled both 2a finalists earlier this season. If they play up to their ability all others are playing for second. Piute's only chance is for Rich to self implode.
i wonder how many years the championship game will be in the semis befor the uhsaa finally wakes up to the fact boys and girls for the past who knows how long region 20 and 16 should be on oppisite sides of the bracket. and not just in basketball. vollyball as well. i think it is sad to a point and disgusting when you have a team wind up #2 in a blow out game that the #3 could have beaten. the champion is still the champion but i think the rest is skued. when will they ever get it right.
And with that attitude, Rich may very well do just that.
It could happen today vs. Milford.
Look out for Wasatch Academy...
It would be nice to see Rich, Duchesne, Whitehorse,Panguitch, and Monticello moved up to 2A.
It is hard to compete when they are 2 to 3 times the size of your school. They should be good the have the numbers... I agree 16 and 20 are tough regions... Although I think it is funny that they don't have to play each other in crossover games... Good luck to the boys who play... They all work hard and deserve to have this experience at state...
Look for Piute to upset Rich. Region 20 is always strong. 5 of the 7 teams made it to the tournament. It's sad not to see Escalante in this year. They have a classy program. Wayne should have been there, they had some good talent, they just need a good coach to put it together. I think you can count on region 20 finishing in 3 of the top 5 spots. Go region 20!
Work as a NCAA Analyst & on the seating of the big 64, as usual it sucks on how the seating is set.
This goes with the 1A St Bktbll Chmpns seating, Two #1's Piute & West Ridge will meet soon in Rd 2, out of the winner might meet another #1 Rich in the Semi Rd instead of in the Championship.
Might as well make it a Double Elimination bracket to see the real #1's meet back again in the Championship Rd.
Don't want to see a high caliper team get beat once & playing for 3rd or 8th place.
Anonymous: I agree that it's ridiculous when the championship game is played in the Semi's and not in the Championship game. However, the problem happens only every other year. The rotation that happens every year causes Region 16 and Region 20 to match up in the semi's every other year which usually ends up being the two best teams in the tournament. Although Region 20 and Region 18 usually tote the two best teams, the UHSAA feels that it would be biased against other Regions in 1A if the tournament was structured specifically around those two Regions.

Good luck to all my Rich boys!! Wish i could go down this weekend but i will be watching every game on the webcast
I agree (reg 20 fan) Piute will be the team to upset Rich. Rich looked great early on in the season but it seems like they peaked to soon. Piute has really turned it up a notch late in the season!! What ever happened to Jan Ellet over there in Wayne? He seemed to be a great coach and was doing good things with those boys.
What ever happened to:
J Ellett from Wayne, G Bruce from Dugway, S Parsons from Green River, L Gines from Tabiona and many others...possibly retirement, medical reasons or just had enough for all their excellent help but not appreciated!!!!
"Fundamentals" I agree those are some great basketball minds in coaching, they are really missed at their schools, sometimes you wonder what teams could be like if guys like them were still coaching, Not to mention you left G Southwick off of the list from Wayne, he had a good program going and got ran off by the parents.
Agreed. It's usually small town politics that takes over, thinking of themselves and their own agendas instead of thinking of what is best for the kids! Those schools that have good coaches are lucky!
Agreed, they should definately put region 16 #1 and region 20 #1 on seperate sides of the bracket every year. 9 times out of ten, they are the best two regions, and have the best two teams to make it the best championship game. who said region 18?
To bad WA i guess you could not back the smack up today. Good team, to much trash. Next year schedual some good games you will be more ready to compete. Good work Region 20. It will be you against region 16.
Got to give it to Bryce Valley against Wasatch Academy. They just wanted it more. My hopes is that Bryce Valley makes it to the final round and plays for state, they really deserve it. Great team and good ball players, but they need to be careful. They tend to get angry really easily and lose everything when it happens. Good Luck B.V.
Wheres the Wasatch Academy Mouth Now???
Talked theirselves up like they were gona win the championship and get beat in the first round? haha
Wasatch Academy played the worst teams in the state all year and then talked themselves up.. Try playing region 16 and 20 teams then you will know how its done..
Hey Wasatch, way to go! You're the new "powerhouse" of Region 18! And Liahona, you guys seem like you've got your head on a lot better than Wasatch, but face it you're cursed with Region 18. You lost twice to Wasatch in the regular season and you'll loose again tonight against Whitehorse by 12.
Wasatch takes state....now that's funny!
