Comments about ‘Victim deserves dignity’

True. One almost wishes that there is a plea deal so Miss Smart can avoid testifying again, with more details, and with the world's media reporting the more gruesome ones.

Shame it can't be a closed hearing as they do with national security matters. Shame that people, especially young women, aren't more important that 'national security'!

The victim (Elizabeth Smart)also deserves respect-something some people can't seem to understand, given the number of trolls on the Internet & in the media who continue to vilify her & her family.

Yes, it's very sad that idiots that pretend to be insane so they can carry out their crimes and continue to torture their victims long after they've been caught should even warrant our attention.
I should not have even mentioned that first.
I applaud and admire and totally look up to Elizabeth for moving on with her life and giving service to the Lord. It would have been so easy for her to hide away and everyone would have understood. Instead, she is giving up several months of her life to do something very difficult and I have every ounce of admiration for her. I hope she continues to be blessed beyond measure.

Although evidence I've seen against Mitchell is clear and convincing, we rightly require the state to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt before pronouncing shipwreck on him. Until them, his rights must also be protected -- including the right to a public trial and to confront the witnesses against him.

It does make things harder on Elizabeth Smart, which is certainly regrettable; but we have no better alternative if we wish to see justice served. It's up to the press to avoid making a circus out of this.

Who vilifies Elizabeth and her family? I agree it would be nice if she could be shielded from some of the fallout that is still ongoing, but seriously? I don't see a lot of people coming out and calling for her to rot in prison, etc. Maybe I've missed something...

IMO the dignity of victim should be respected, but in the end it boils down how hard the defense attorneys want fight for a not guilty verdict.
To get a not guilty by reason of insanity, the defense will have convince jury that Mitchell's actions could have only been committed by someone totally insane and unaware that his actions were wrong. The defense would have to bring to light the worst acts of Mitchell, to shock jury into believing Mitchell insane. Elizabeth Smart would have to do as she did during competency, drive home the facts that Mitchell was aware of right and wrong, that he is a sex criminal and control freak, that he was cunning and evil, but not insane. A plea bargin might work, but the sentence must be so long that Mitchell would be so old as not to be a risk to the public or Elizabeth Smart if released. Society needs to be protected from Mitchell, which means Elizabeth Smart has to do what ever is necessary to keep Mitchell behind bars for life, even if it means a media circus.

What?, just look at alot of the posts on Youtube, KSL, & the Salt Lake Tribune website. You'll see what I mean.

Elizabeth deserves PEACE! This lowlife, sex deviate, BRIAN MITCHELL, need to be locked up for the rest of his unnatural life. He also needs be fed grubs for breakfast, lunch and super for the rest of his disgusting life.

She deserves it! She is a class act!
