I have had the privelege of growing up very close to Nick and playing one on one with him many times in the neigborhood, and I couldn't say enough good things about him. I dont doubt for one second he will put in the time necessary to reach a dream I know he has wanted! The competitor, character, talent, and heart of Mr. Paulos is rarely seen.

the kid is outstanding

Nick Paulos is more than just a good player, he is an outstanding player, a team player. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win a game. Lock down D, a silky smooth jumper, and his mobility while he is in the air. Nick has grown so much over the past few years and so have his skills. Winning the state tournament wont be a problem just as long as this kid is making his shots. (even if nick is not feeling it then it wont be a problem for his team to cover for him.) Good Luck to all of these "bubble players". And if Paulos brings home a state title to olympus then his division 1 dream will come true.

Remind the kid...there is more to life than basketball...

Your write, there is more to life than basketball, it's called football:)

RE: Teach

When you're trying to make a career out of basketball, basketball is your life.

How tough for these guys....Living life on the bubbble.

Gaining attention

This story leaves out those kids who end up playing for a lame coach or school that doesn't attract any attention due to their losing record year in & year out. Getting a college coach to even look at them is difficult. Our son was 6'9" and 230 and played for one of those lame coaches & losing schools. Fortunately, he was recruited, but eventually looked beyond basketball. With a decent high school coach, his life would've been much easier.

good job

he needs to gain what asap or he wont make it in the next level

What is even worse is....

The UHSAA taking away the kids chance to play all day long tomorrow at Weber State. Those college coaches that like to spend all day up at the games watching these kids do not have that chance this year. They have to choose a game, yes 1 game, on Tuesday night to go to.

Let's get the tourney games back where they belong UHSAA!

And what's even more sad is

Paulos and several of his teammates chose not to play in the boundaries where they live. Olympus more than any school this year probably has more out of boundary kids than any other.

Ice cream protein shakes before he goes to bed will really help.Protein in oatmeal also helps. Putting weight on a skinny kid is a hole lot easier than putting height on a short kid.

Abroad fan for OLY

Nicholas Paulos has such an amazing love and dedication to the sport of basketball I have no doubt he will be doing everything in his power to lead his team to a state championship.

Never being given the recognition he deserves he has worked harder than any other player to get where he is today. That hard work and dedication isn't going to slow him down in D1. Sadly coaches seem to be too hung up on his weight. But he definitely has the potential to be more than just a bubble player.

And for all those pessimistic comments, There is nothing wrong with having a dream and fighting tooth and nail to achieve it. If more people had the kind of drive this kid does the world would be a much better place.

How many college recruiters really go to high school games or play offs? Not many, if you want your kids to be seen they have to play on AAU teams to get a chance. At least this is what I've seen for bball and volleyball.

Paulos played on the Utah Pump N Run and has had just as much experience as almost anyone in the state.

work ethic

he will be fine if he wants it as much as it seems like he does he will make it some where and play fine and his body will mature he will make some noise just wait!

I watched him at last years state tourney - Paulos' upside is tremendous - someone will want to take him D1. I'm interested to see him play again at this years tourney - and the others. His D - and athleticism impressed me as much as his smooth shot.

This is a great story on dedication and commitment. Thanks to the DNews for doing the story. The tournaments will be great this year!

Hmmmm

You know, if Paulos played where he lived (West), he'd probably be looking a bit more enticing...could have had a championship.

Great story.
