No, Democrats would rather we hand-over our freedoms and rights to an all=knwoing, all seeing and all-wise federal government and bureaucracy that is so much more enlightened that us bumpkins out in Utah. No wonder these pathetic losers are permanent minority party status in Utah. If they'd actually stand up for Utah values and our freedoms and rights, maybe they'd get a few more supporters.
What a terrible burden...all of these "States Rights" bills that protect infringement on your personal freedom and liberty.
I understand now why Democrats oppose it and I hope you see and understand it too!!
Democrats are not concerned about protecting you from the infringing federal govt overstepping their boundaries set forth in the Constitution.
Oh yes, what a bother those freedoms we all enjoy and take for granted.
News Flash to Democrats:
We would not be needing to pass all these bills if the socialist in the Whitehouse did not demonstrate the need for many of the States across the nation to do the same thing.
No, Republicans want to sell our public land to the highest bidder (their business partners or rich friends) and lock the public out forever. I believe in some State's rights, but I also believe that all of these State's rights bills and money-driven. Follow the money on this--it will lead back to legislator's pockets. Let's take this a little slower! Some good things could come out of the discussions.
Why don't you and your like-minded fellows pay for all the litigation yourself, and you can have all the benefits. The rest of us can sit here and be oppressed by whatever you feel has you under its thumb, and concentrate on educating our children, filling our potholes, etc.
That is the problem with democrats. You list potholes ahead of freedoms and liberties.
We know where democrat priorities are.
Seriously, like education is going to come to screeching halt or something. Hopefully when we layoff some of the teachers they will unload the deadwood teachers that should have been gone a long time ago. Knowing how the union works though it probably won't happen that way.
Let me guess the sky is falling in your neighborhood?
Truly pathetic.
Thanks for that holier than though sermon about the highest bidder.
Kind of like how the UNIONS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR THAT $60 BILLION DOLLAR TAX EXEMPTION ON THEIR CADILLAC HEALTH PLANS?
Who would be paying the difference so they can have that tax break? Everyone else that is not in a union?
Yes, I'm so glad the sermon from Democrats teaches us to do what they say and not what they do.
The elitism stench is more than my stomach can handle.

and how long d you think that will last? soon the federal government will have the power to say you can't fill those potholes and your children can only be educated to the extent they think is neccessary. this fight for states rights goes way beyond what you think it is. it is abouttotal government control (that's called a dictatorship, for those of you who haven't been educated).
Last time I checked it was a Utahn that wanted to get rid of the 12th grade and not the federal govt. I completely agree with the democrats. The only reason they attempt to pass such bills is to shift power to themselves, not the people. They don't seem to care that their "state's rights" bills could cost Utah critical funds.
A bill cannot support state's rights if it is unconstitutional. Certain powers are reserved to the states, but I'm pretty sure our legislature is not full of constitutional scholars.
I think we should always approach talking and diplomacy not wasting time passing useless and costly laws. We know have 2 senators from Utah that have a major power in congress to get the feds to listen and maybe to give some concessions. Their job is to negotiate in behalf of the people from Utah. But that is not what republicans want. They rather make noise like babies or use scary tactics to get what they need. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! I guess it only works when the president is republican. Come on grow up!!
Try reading the article again. States rights are a priority to both parties. How to make it happen is where the difference comes in. Carefully, thought out, bipartisan effort will go a lot farther than well worn, empty phrases and posturing.
Get online and take a look at what is being cut to balance the budget this year. Don't spend limited tax dollars on message bills.
If you really want to defend The Constitution of the United States of America, support better educating our children so they have the ability to understand and cherish it.
Could you please tell us exactly what freedoms we have lost in the last year under the new "socialist" president?
Freedoms lost last year? Technically none. You could say that there is a loss of capital or spending freedom but at this point any lost freedoms are purely speculative. However, I feel that due to the current administrations policies the loss of freedoms in regard to the aforementioned capital and spending will become more prevalent.
The rights of the states are a priority as dictated by the vote of the people and the constitution of that state, the federal government was not set up to police and control the individual states but rather to ensure the safety and stability of the republic.
When the control of the federal government grows to a point where it completely supersedes the state government then the individual states as we know them will cease to exist and become administrative districts.
Republicans want to sell our land to the highest bidder? I guess its better to have these lands just stolen by the federal government? They own 70% of our state already. How much is enough? Only an idiot would suggest we give our land away instead of using it for our schools, and limiting our dependence on foreign energy.
Just like the Mormons took the land they found here from the Indians. Now you cry when the Feds want to take it from you.
Ha!
I thought these legislators all took the oath of office to uphold the Constitution? So why are they running bills that are unconstitutional on their face?
They are doing so for political posturing in the off-year election. Citizens, take note and vote these yokels out this fall.
What a bunch of ignorant comments.
The paranoia that is unleashing in this state is scary. I come from a long line of Republican and am one myself. But I will be forced to change to be an independent voter if someone doesn't reign in the Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck paranoia that is taking hold upon this state. If anyone would stop to think a bit they would realize that both sides have become far to contentious. And the only ones making money now are the people who want to scare others.
with no due respect, stop playing games and get back to work!
Why are we even debating this with Republicans. I think that other states legislatures should pass message resolutions stating:
Wherefore, Utah's passage of legislation that steals federal lands and places them under the control of Utah is a violation of our rights;
Wherefore, these bills are unconstitutional (U.S. Constitution, Art. IV, Sec., 3, Cl. 2 and Art. VI, Sec. 1, Cl. 2) and illegal under U.S. law which is the "supreme law of the land" (U.S. Constitution, Art. VI, Sec. 1, Cl. 2);
Wherefore, Utah and its state representatives are intent on violating the rights of other Americans and our citizens;
Wherefore, Utah is infringing on the authority of the United States and our representatives; and,
Wherefore, Utah has made it clear that it is intent on violating the Constitution and is without legal, constitutional or moral arguments to support their attempted theft of federal lands collectively owned by all states.
We resolve that if Utah continues on this path of violating our rights that we will be left with no other option but to authorize the use of military force to defend our rights and repossess our land.
Obviously the Dems are so addicted to federal funding that just the thought of possibly losing it is terrifying to them.
Addiction recovery is a difficult process, the first step is to recognize you're addicted, I'm looking at you Utah Democrats!!!
