So I guess RSL learned little from the Freddie Adu experiment.

Gil is a total stud and only 16 years old! I wonder if he's sweet 16? If he is I'd love to be #1. Does anybody else know? I'm going to volunteer to be his legal guardian if his parents are still in Mexico.

Who Cares?

Soccer is right there with Ice Dancing on the "you know" scale.

I am okay with this, Gil still has a lot to prove, but the pundits seem to agree he is the man (well young man).

I worry about the International slot. We are still paying for giving ones up for Adolfo Gregorio and Stewart.

Hopefully we won't need some massive international help this year.

I care

Who Cares? go watch some olympics or soap operas.

Interesting

Apparently you care as you commented on the story...

Back on topic, it is intersting that RSL gave up an international spot for this kid. Hopefully he pans out more than Adu and hopefully he gets some time with the loaded RSL schedule (that is if there isnt a strike)

So just because Freddy Adu didn't work out here we should pass on all young talent that comes our way? This kid isn't going to be the face of the franchise, and probobly will be behind Findley and Espindola on the depth chart. A chance for him to grow and provide depth, and hopefully can be a star in the future.

Wow this should be good. I hope he can net some goals. Welcome to the Champs Gil!

not very excited that we traded an international roster spot for a 16 year old!!

good thing we picked up some great youth talent. But what was this kid thinking not going to arsenal or real madrid?? hope they still look at him after his time here with rsl

Re: I care and Interesting

Don't bother man, you are only feeding the trolls.

On topic; I think this is agreat move. I saw that he was going to be dished out via lottery, and was hoping some way that we could get him. I have seen a lot of highlights on this kid, and he has just raw talent. I'm glad he is so young, RSL should be able to mold him to fit our scheme. I can't wait till the season starts! I get back from Iraq just in time.

Doug

I am baffled. Do child-labor and compulsory education laws not apply to this child for some reason?

Excellent news! Nice to see SL showing some confidence in Gil from the get-go. Those were not cheap trades to get him here! This is shaping up to be an exciting season already...if they get the CBA hammered out.

This keeps things interesting.

Let's hope RSL does something with this young man. We have a terrible track record with young talent:

Besagno - never panned out
Adu - only a few games and then left overseas
Seitz - never progressed as a back up

Good luck Mr. Gil, I hope you do better than our previous young players.

whoa

I read the article and thought it said that RSL signed a 16 year old 'Girl'

My first thought was... now we are talking. Soccer is a sport for girls.

Adu played a bunch of games for RSL. Maybe the team around him was the problem, but he definitely got way more game for RSL than he did for DC.

Can we all calm down on the Adu comparisons? Correct me if I'm wrong but Ghana wasn't trying to convince him to play on their national team and he didn't have Real Madrid and Arsenal trying to sign him and convince him to sign with them instead of MLS.
Real Madrid spent what $150 million last year on players? They can sign anyone from anywhere so if they are pursuing someone that is 16 then they could be something really, really special. Great news for RSL.

A few corrections for ya all. Gil is a midfielder, not a forward. Adu's first club was DC United not RSL so blame them for not molding him into a great player. Seitz was never as good as Rimando so why play him? Real Madrid spent over $250 million last year and that was only on two players. The kid wants to stay in the states for a while so let him, by the way look at Donovan and well he is doing over there after many years at home.

Fact of the matter is we really didn't give up much for the kid and when European clubs come calling we'll probably make some money off of him. We have most of the same team from last year and not a lot of gaps to fill so why not take the chance?
