what next! I had a son in law that quit smoking this way, he had tried many things and this helped. What about nicotine patches aren't they poisonous too, are we going to outlaw them also, I can walk into WalMart and buy that off of the counter? What you are saying is we want you to quit but we do not want you to have helpful ways to quit. If the reasoin is because the product is poisonous then we might as well ban cleaning products, over the counter pain killers and everything else that we use daily that can be toxic.
Come on don't we have better things to legislate than a product that is helpful in getting smokers off of cigerettes.
once again the gov't is sticking its nose up where it doesn't belong...
could they be behind the bill? Why is any government involved with situations like this? let the people decide if they want them and just stay away from stuff like this. Seriously, is this the most pressing issue facing utahns right now?
To honestly: sorry I just mirrored your post.
Give me a break! Are you kidding? This has proven to be the ONLY thing that is working for several of my friends who have tried off and on over the years to quit smoking.
So now, we're all going to be back to inhaling their smoke second-hand as they go the rounds again on hoping to cut this habit out of their lives?
Where's the ban on artificial sweeteners that just as assuredly poisons the body? Wean yourselves off eating too much by going cold turkey because the legislature is going to ban sugar-free products next. No? Well, it's the same type of logic they used to pass this bill.
Holy smokes!!! ...or is that Holier-than-thou smokes?
Cant people kill themselves without the government stepping in and telling them what they can and cant do didnt they make the E-Cig. to help people quit smoking, ohhhh thats right if people keep buying cigarettes part of the money goes to the government so why would they want peopel to quit
I'm willing to bet that the so called mover of this bill is staunch LDS....
That's not an attack...it's more than likely a fact!!!
It's against their religion..hence let's ban it for the rest who don't happen to believe the same.
That's why living in this state is so annoying.
As for you "move out then" people...
I was born here and have as much right to my freedom as you do....so bite me!
Wow! This is so wrong.
Can you spell "Nanny State"?
Do they not have anything better to do?
Ive never heard of a bill that makes less sense than this one. I mean i just really dont get it, I can usually see some sort of reasoning behind bills that i dont like but this one just baffles me.
This groups mental health patients with criminals and disallows the use of ecigs for people who have to be locked up for treatment while having breakdowns and such.
That's very patronising and likely to reduce the number of people who need help being able to be honest and ask for it.
I wouldn't want to be locked up somewhere where I couldn't vape even if I was off my head and maybe dangerous. I'd avoid getting that sort of 'help' at all costs.
Apparently crime went down by 14% on the Isle of Man when they made the only prison completely no smoking. The disincentive was enough to make the baddies behave themselves.
I don't smoke, but e-cigs seem like a good thing. Why would they get rid of something that helps people get off of cigarettes? Doesn't make sense.
Climate change not proven?? Some of our legislators are truly un-educated. I wish there was a way to hold them responsible for the damage they do to us all. Oh, by the way, some people think the earth is round! Imagine that.
So what you are saying is buying a gun is OK but an electronic cigarette is not. Got love the morons in the legislature.
Okay. That's it. So you want us all to quit, right? You've raised the price through taxes on smokes exponentially, banned them from all public places, cleaned out the bars and restaurants, and it still hasn't worked. Now you want to take away a viable means of one being able to curtail their use of tobacco and successfully quit. Let's just get down to the bare fact and remove ALL tobacco products from the shelves and forbid their entry into the state impossing fmega fines on those found with them like those on Marijuanna or cocaine. You KNOW that's where you want to take it, so cut out the BS and do it already! Not only will you clean out the air, you'll clean out the state of all of us undesireables. Alternative? LEAVE US ALONE so we can die in peace!
It's all about the children, always is. If is pot and blacks targeting the children, crack and children, gays and children, it is always about the children with these neo-cons!
Unfortunately, this method of delivery is far safer for the nicotine addict and others around them than cigarettes. There are no hydrocarbons floating in the air. These legislatures on the hill are taking tobacco money, plain and simple. Get the bribe money out of politics.
I said it before and i'll say it again, the UT legislature is idiotic, pathetic and ridiculous! Does anyone up there actually THINK??
Very simple answer: pharmaceutical companies make and sell the patches and gum. Since they are the OWNERS of the legislature, they would prefer no competition related to products to quite smoking!
As always, FOLLOW THE MONEY!!
Remember the movie 'water world'?
Where there was a big ship named the Exxon Valdez populated only by smokers roaming a flooded earth looking for the last piece of dry land.
Reading these comments just reminded me of that movie, you are all just entertaining.
Are they foolish control freaks or just paid and bought for puppets for the tobacco and pharmaceutical barons? Perhaps both!
It's my understanding that this bill bans the sale of e-cigarettes only to minors. The original bill introduced by Rep. Ray would have banned sales altogether, but that bill was amended, was it not? If that's the case, I suggest the article be corrected, since the National Vapers Club fully supports prohibiting sales to minors, while leaving e-cigarettes available to adults who choose to use them.
That said, I agree with the poster about the ban of these devices for patients in mental health facilities (not to mention grouping them with criminals, which seems exceedingly wrong-headed). Nicotine is demonized because of its association with smoking, but nicotine--in and of itself--carries about the same risks as caffeine, another widely used, addictive substance.
Nicotine has, in fact, been proven to have benefits in a variety of ways. To deny nicotine to people in need of mental health care is likely to have the effect of dissuading those people from getting the help they need.
An e cigarette does not have any on or off switch. Left within reach of a toddler who sucks on everything, a few sucks on this device, a child is dead. And teens think anything mechanical is cool. Don't tell me that this is not marketed for children and youth. And while you may not be sending out second hand smoke, you are still poisoning yourself and we are paying for your health care costs.
