close political friends with Teddy Kennedy isn't conservative!
We who are truly conservative (what I'd rather call Constitutionalists) have been trying to work within both parties for decades--to no avail. Maybe it IS time to divide parties along ideological lines so that, when you vote, you know what the candidate really stands for.
The lesser of two evils is still evil.
Another nail in the coffin for the GOP.
Hatch is a hypocrite. Last week he admonished Chaffetz for not taking earmarks, basically saying it is easy money. Now he is saying not enough people in Washington are standing up to overspending. You can't encourage Government spending yesterday, and admonish it today Hatch. Pick a side.
Of course Hatch would warn voters not to "splinter" from his party -- they might elect someone else if they did! And let us not forget that last November (while congress was passing Stimulus Packages) Sen. Hatch held a townhall meeting on -- drumroll please -- the conversion of television from analog to digital. How fiscally responsible was that? And at the same time, Sen. Bennett was writing a book about the LDS church. How stand-up was that? We need Representatives in Washington, not these clowns.
I've noticed that Senator Hatch makes great speeches when he's in town. I remember him telling us at one that we needed to vote him in because he was the only one standing between Teddy Kennedy and America. Yes, the same Teddy Kennedy that Orrin writes songs about when he goes back to his club in Washington. Move over Orrin, you've got Washington-itis in a big way.
Hatch has shown just out of touch he is by blaming the Tea Party movement for Republican losses. Rather than admit that Brown and Smith were out of touch with the people they represent, he blames people for not following his lead by just "going along" with everything.
Supporters of the Tea Party did not give those seats to Democrats. It was the failure of the Republican party to adhere to it's principals that did.
It's been interesting to watch politicians on both sides blame the voters rather than accept responsibility for their action. Hatch went to Washington to change the culture and has claimed that Washington has not changed him.
Just like "Animal Farm" where the animals could no longer tell the difference between the pigs and humans...I can't tell the difference between Orin Hatch (and Republicans) and Democrats. They look and sound the same.
Hatch has been in the Senate for 34 years. Way too long to be on the public dole. I remember when he campaigned and beat Ted Moss for being in their 10 or 15 years telling us that Moss had been in too long and we needed a change. When Hatch reached the same years Moss had been in when he Hatch ousted him, his reply was if I leave office, Utah will miss all the important committee assignments I have. He apparently wasn't too concerned about Ted Moss losing him important committee assignments when he beat him. I say he needs to follow the example of the Senator who just announced after 3 terms of office he was leaving. Bravo for him. We don't need career politicians who are really only concerned about being re-elected every 6 years for the Senate and every 2 years in the Congress. It's long past due for you to step down Orrin Hatch. What have you really done for Utah in your 34 years in office? Really, nothing except thump on your chest and tell us how great you are. Herbert Philbrick. (2-18-10)
The only people that Hatch stands up for are the rich and powerful that he sold out to long ago.
Thanks Orrin for being a pragmatist. You are not exactly a far right person and it gives me faith to see the radical right criticize you. We need representatives who move things forward and if the right wing continues to be obstructionist they will marginalize the Republican party even more, much as the radical left is criticizing Jim Matheson and Evan Bayh.
One more term after this one would make a nice send off for Orin.
Overall he has been a good Senator for Utah.
Hatch needs to go, he is just as bad as BAILOUT BOB.
The most important point in this article is "...his 34 years in office...". That is way too long for any one to be in the D.C. puzzle palace. And why is it "far-right" to want the 535 in Congress to stop spending our tax dollars like it was monopoly money?
standup
now sit down
stand up again
Complain about democrats and taxes
oops stop complaining Obama lowered everyones taxes who earns under $200,000.
Good job conservatives and tea party members, stand in line over there to get your atta boys.
He is about as real as a three dollar bill.
And the tea party splintering the Republican party would be a bad thing how?
Poor Orrin, he goes to Washington and tries to come off as a reasonable, intelligent man, then has to come back to Utah and backtrack. Apparently it is getting harder to convince the nutjobs that he is just as crazy as they are. By the way any senator that voted for the Bush tax cuts without cutting spending and voted for the expansion of medicare to cover drugs without increasing taxes or cutting other programs to pay for it is not a fiscal conservative, he is a fake.
My brother just lost his job at ATK because of Obama cancelling NASA Ares rockets. I have seen Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz making comments on figthing Obama's decision. Where are both of our Senators? Havne't seen or heard a word out of them. What are they back there for????
"I think you should work within the party to make it more conservative."
I say Orrin should take his own advice.
Tea Party is going no where, people should focus on getting the Republican party back on track.
How about sponsering a term limit bill to limit all legislators to two terms. New blood and new ideas. Term limits is the answer to their "vote for anything that will get them re-elected."
