Jordan is slowly losing their rivalry status to Alta. During the last 5-6 years, Alta seldomly loses to Jordan and the new rivalry, Alta and Bingham, has become apparent.
Region 4 is so exciting. I can't wait for the Brighton v. Alta game this Friday. It will be a hard fought battle for the title. We'll see who wants it more!
A team will always appreciate a great individual if he's willing to sacrifice for the group. -Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
A lot of close wins is a sign of good coaching. Good coaches know how to win those close games and Jim Barker has shown he can win the close games. His calm demeanor helps his kids relax in crunch time. Good job Coach Barker!
Only if you are coming from behind. If you are slowly losing your lead it is a sign of CHOKING. Too many close games is not a good sign with the playoffs right around the corner. Good luck.
say what you want...but the basketbal gods have been very easy on alta this year.
they have won 4 games in the toughest region by 1 point.
they lose 2 of those and they are in 4th place at best.
i thought the odds would catch them-but they have learned to win (and get lucky) those close games.
congrats alta.
Yes the rivalry has died down a tiny bit but if you think that game was any sign at all of the alta jordan rivalry "losing rivalry status" you obviously werent at the game. That was the most intense atmosphere of a high school game i have been to in a long time. Jordan has come up on the short end of the stick over the past couple years, yes, but if anything the game last night was evidence that the jordan alta rivalry is still very much alive.
the refs seem to hate jordan when these two teams play. why wasn't there a call on the last play? goldsmith got hit by three different players and it was a no call. the refs handed alta the game again. but still that was still one of the sickest high school games i've ever seen! but state is going to be crazy!
Just because goldsmith makes it look like a foul does not mean it's a foul. He forced a really crappy shot and it didn't go his way, thats basketball. The refs called a very fair game and they aren't gonna let the outcome of the game come down to a pair of free throws. It was a good call, and a hard fought game on both sides. Way to pull it out in the end Alta. Smart crunch time gameplay has been the story of the year for Alta. And they will be very big contenders for the state title this year.
Go ahead and give him the foul... the likelyhood of Goldsmith making the free throws is about 50%. That pretty much goes for any Jordan player for that matter.
I was at the game on Tuesday and it was a great one. It came down to free throws which isn't a strong point for either team. Alta made more free throws and ultimately won the game. I know Alta won the game last night but i think that Jordan has a better overall team and will go further in the playoffs than Alta. Davis and Brown are a good combo at Alta but watch out for Goldsmith and Mero of Jordan. Goldsmith is a great athlete and Mero can shoot with the best of them. Good luck to both teams.
According to you if Goldsmith had got the foul then the score would have been tied and overtime. I for one could take overtime. Brown driving left putting up a shot, Davis hitting the soft touch shot, Mero hitting the long ball or Goldsmith doing a twisting layup. Who cares, two great Alta/Jordan games this year and when was the last time Foul? hit a free throw?
Go Brighton!!!! All the way to state baby!!
I don't know who is posting that this is not a good rivalry, because this year there was an overtime game at Alta and a 1 point game at Jordan. As an Alta fan, I am going to retract the statement above and say that this rivalry is a fun one and it always brings exciting games.
The Jordan kids are well coached and gave it everything that they had on Tuesday night. I feel the same way about Alta. Anyone that was at the game would admit it was one of the best high school games this year, and with the Jazz bear and all of the entertainment during the game I might add that it may have been the best atmosphere that I have ever seen at a high school basketball game.
Congrats to Alta and good luck against Brighton. I also want to tell the Jordan coaches and players that you are doing an amazing job. I have had older sons graduate from Alta that played against Jordan several years ago. Jordan is a totally different program now and their coach has done an incredible job of building that program back up to respectibility.
Go Hawks!
I don't remember saying that the rivalry doesn't exist or that it's not a good one. I was simply stating that Jordan is slowly losing their rivalry status. You're right, I wasn't at the game and I didn't get to experience the atmosphere...but on a "record" standpoint, Alta conquers.
It is obvious that Jordan's basketball program is getting better. I hope the rivarly does survive...
alta was so clearly the better team! jordan played the game of their lives and alta played just ok in the first half. Jordan is a good team but alta is a great team and showed that they could play with half of what jordan had and still win!!!! GO ALTA!!!!!!!!!!
how can you say that jordan played the game of their lives? nate monson only had 4 points. kevin goldsmith had a solid 14 but he can do better. alta played very well and jordan played a good game too. two great teams took it down to the wire and it was a great game. jordan would be undefeated if they shot 80% from the charity stripe, no question. even the bingham game!!
Do the math. Jordan's free throw shooting is 53% against Alta and 50% against the loss against PG last night. I stand by my comment that Goldsmith, or any Jordan player has about a 50-50 chance of making a free throw. That won't get you too far in the tournament. I'm not saying Goldsmith is a bad player, on the contrary he is a pretty good in all the games I have seen. But as a team they stink at the free throw line.
Mitch Winter needs to shoot more 3's. He is the next JJ Reddick
Mitch Winter is a great shooter because of the time his father Leon has put towards him. Mitch never learned how to feed a post player, but he can sure shoot the three ball.
