... Oi,Oi,Oi :D
My goodness how irrelevant is this article. Do the mormon times staff just spend all day searching for irrelevant LDS stories. This newspaper is losing more and more traction and readership as the days go by.
Go aussies, GO! You little rippas! I love relevant news like this. True blue and ridgy didg.
Let's see who is the Primary Audience of the DN..... Utahns and Mormons...... So yes, this article is very relevant.
1) She lives in Salt Lake City. I think that right there make it relevant to include in the Deseret News.
2) This is a pretty big honor. Think about it. Out of all the athletes from any country, only 1 person gets this honor every 4 years (or 2, including the Summer Olympics).
3) The fact that she is LDS was a mere footnote in the story. Get over your hatred and bias.
Sorry you missed out on carrying the flag for us Asta, but us Aussies are very proud of Torah Bright, her testimony of the Church and Cooma, her home town. Thank you for reporting it Mormon Times!
Thanks for sharing - I felt a connection with her as they talked about her being from Salt Lake, now I will cheer even louder for her!!
Let's see... she lives here, trains here, and does all else here and then represents another country. What is up with that?
I wonder why she lives here, trains here and does all else here, but represents another country?
Don't look now but your bigotry and hatred are showing.
Olympic Athletes do it all the time. In the opening ceremonies they had one guy who was born and raised in Scotland, but was representing Ghana. They had several people who live in the U.S. but were representing places like Bermuda and Peru and other warm weather climates.
Well, let's see PC girl...Australia does not get anywhere near the snow they do in Utah. Does that mean they should not have the opportunity to compete? She IS Australian but she has to live here in order to train. I thought that was obvious, but then I am an Australian so I can see the obvious.
Torah is Australian. Like many other winter sport athletes from all over the world, she trains in SLC, with its great snow and Olympic facilities. That she is LDS is an interesting sidenote. Being selected to carry your coutry's flag is very cool and a huge honor, sort of like being selected captain. She seems very classy and mature, a good choice for any group she may represent: snow boarders, Australians, LDS, etc. Good luck to Torah.
they mentioned that the US's own Lindsey Vonn trains in Chile during our summers so she can get more snow and more training...this might answer your question PCGirl
Ummm....Lindsey Vonn spends all of about 2 weeks ski training in the United States each year. She spends far more time training in Chile and Austria than here. Does that mean she shouldn't be allowed to represent the U.S. at the Olympics? Should she ski for Austria? Or Chile? No, she's an American despite where she trains.
So why can't Torah Bright compete for Australia?
Good on ya Torah! I've never met her, but I do know some of her family. Way to represent Cooma, even though I didn't like the town. I'm sure the branch is cheering you on. Congrats on your upcoming marriage.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...
I would have competed in the moguls competition but I keep falling over the first mogul
Great Job Torah!!!
I am happy happy for all those that can cheer on Torah no matter where she is from, where she practices or what she believes. Wow! do not squint too hard because a local paper picked up Torah practicing right there in the papers back yard and mentioned her faith. There is no desperation there it would be a crime not to mention it. I noticed that other articles and papers around the world posting articles on how she will be an amazing sponsored athlete because of her clean Mormon living.. so don't forget to wear out their comment boards toooo! We love your opinion anyway scoobie dooo!!! =) =) nikoniko the rmninja
