More Education Cuts... Really

Lowest dollars spent per student in the country, but hey let's cut more!

Here's a novel idea, how about reducing the amount of child tax credit allowed. Let those using the system pay a little more rather than less...

Time to DROP ALL SPORTS PROGRAMS from schools! Only country in the world who places so much focus on sports instead of EDUCATION! Busing alone for a 1000 student school is over $60,000/year for athletic trips! No wonder we are falling behind the other developed countries. Education first! Sports rarely, if ever, get you a diploma or a job!

Re: CoolBreeze

I agree! Do you think anyone will listen? Doubt it...when you start talking about cutting into sports in this district you basically talking to deaf ears and then easily removed.

DO AWAY WITH THE UNNCECESSARY AND FOCUS ON THE NECESSARY!

It's sad that you don't see the value of sports. You do realize that sports offers education value that can not be found in the classroom. How to be part of a team, how to work towards something. Also, sports keeps a great deal of students in school, prompts them to maintain good grades and dare we say.......keeps them from obesity. Ever notice how many students that participate in sports are also the highest academic producers in the schools, it helps keep them well rounded. Additionally, most programs are supplemented with donated monies and from gate fees. Also, employers are more apt to higher canidates that have participated in sports over scholastically only canidates. Sports helps you prepare for the real world!!

I do see the the value of sports. I excelled in high school and college athletics. I have a B.S. in Zoology and Chemistry, a coaching endorsement and a graduate degree in educational administration. Have currently maintained 16 successful years of teaching in Utah(16 years of being a head coach of two sports as well!). I oversee the after school weights program in my off-season, lift WITH the athletes AND promote exercise and healthy eating for ZERO additional pay!

Less than 1% of high school students get scholarships in athletics, yet we continually dump money into these programs.

Once again sports are great, however they more than likely end after high school and won't get you a job or degree!

Have a look at the number of obese/out-of-shape former "STAR" athletes who coach and/or teach P.E. because it requires minimal education and work!

Look at how Japan, India, China, and most E.U. countries do it! They trash the U.S.!

Sports should be club-oriented, and handled outside of the schools by the local community. This would benefit the EDUCATION system(more $'s) and allow athletic competition!
