Why use the word Ex? All the articles about formers Utah players use the word Former... why use EX when referring to FORMER BYU players?

Andrew

I am a Utah alum and fan. And, I'll be the first to say that Collie is a great roll model. In a world were professional athletes' personal lives leave a lot to be desired, I am proud to have my children look up to an athlete with a strong work ethic and moral code. I am happy to see BYU and Utah athletes succeed, and am happy to have a professional athlete with state ties doing well.

Good for him

I like how a kid who went to BYU and received all kinds of criticism, yet broke all kinds of records, is now considered a "role model," by a news source other than the heavily infiltrated Ute, SL media.

Honestly, what has Collie ever said or done that is so horrible?

And when Yew are finished, re-read what you wrote and ask yourself, how petty can a person be?

Collie is a stud !!!!!!

Charlie

I am happy to see this article and the links. I would much rather have my kids look up to Collie than most of the other NFL players out there. Collie should be hailed a role model.

Nice...

That's awesome!

miguel

good to see a returned missionary doing so well. can't believe he dropped to the fourth round in the draft. I predict an All-Pro year for him in a few years. Despite his lame, anti-missionary comments after they beat Utah, he;s a good kid and will only get better in the NFL.

Role Model

Despite the pettiness of some fans who will never forgive him for 4th and 18...

Collie is a great role model of working hard and living right.

Congrats to Austin on a great rookie year!

Cougar fans are proud of all you've accomplished.

Wayne Rout

Great article...so much better than another I read today. Magic happens. Hard work, doing the right things, usually yields good results. Everyone should be proud of him and what he accomplished. He's a great player and a great person. It is hard to understand why anyone would want to tear downa good man. I guess it is jealously.

ute fan

austin collie's comments frankly, were idiotic after the utah game but it really is long past time to move on. Even for Dick Harmon. i cant believe he slipped to the fourth round. he is a good player. good for him and his success.

Burton Prestwich

"Hard work, doing the right things, usually yields good results."

That's not what he said. He said when you're living right on and off the field the Lord steps in and plays a part. Bringing the Lord into it is what irritates folks.

Why the double standard utes?

"At times, God is going to put you in a position to wonder why this is happening, and yet you know there's a reason.

"It's there to make you stronger and to give the opportunity to accomplish something later on - and here we are."

Drew Brees (QB of the team you all cheered for against the evil Collie). UU Utes make the state of Utah a joke. Its only wrong to be have beliefs if you are a Y player.

Jim

Collie is a great role model. I applaud him for his athletic accomplishments but more for what he stands for and even for his famous statements. I hope he continues to have an impressive pro career.

To Burton Prestwich

You: He said when you're living right on and off the field the Lord steps in and plays a part. Bringing the Lord into it is what irritates folks.

Me: And yet Reggie Bush, Drew Brees, and a myriad of other athletes can make the same or similar comments and are met with a yawn. Collie does it and it is an outrage.

Only in Utah.

The Trib reporter that year, her first in Utah, saw Collie's comments just like so many others she'd heard athletes say in other states.

Collie went so far as a few days later making it clear his comments applied to ANY athlete regardless of the school, team, or situation.

Any yet, here we are two years later rehashing the whole thing.

Sometimes I am glad I don't live in Utah.

A BIT PREMATURE

DALE MURPHY is a ROLE MODEL.

Collie has a ways to go before he should be labeled a role model.

Collie's comment was tame...

...I believe he stepped into the ferocity of the rivalry unwittingly.

Max Hall's remarks laid bare the acute toxicity in this dysfunctional relationship.

It would be best for everyone if Utah & BYU are in different conferences. The negativity is really, really unhealthy. I'm familiar with the Oregon-Oregon State rivalty and while it is fierce, after the game players & coaches mingle in friendly way.

In BYU-Utah, somebody is going to get seriously hurt, or worse. It's just too toxic.

Collie was right

When you do what's right, it translates into the rest of your life. If your life is football, then it translates into football. I back up what Collie said after that Utah game 100%.

RE: To Burton Prestwich

I'm glad that I live in Calif. Drew Brees, Tim Tebow, and many other athletes etc. etc etc. can make religious comments but when Austin Collie did everyone tore the guy down. His comments are TRUE! When you are doing right things on and off the field...you CAN expect to see results!

Austin, congratulations on a great rookie season! Would have loved to have seen you get a Super Bowl ring in your rookie year but I'm sure it won't be long before you do.

You are a good role model to many young men who are athletes and wonder if you can be successful in sports if you serve a mission.

Utes, if you are going to rip on Austin for his comments go ahead and take on Drew Brees for what he said after the Super Bowl. Someone else referred to that on this comment board but I actually was thinking no one will give Drew Brees grief over what he said but the Utes will continue to make ridiculous comments about Austin Collie TWO YEARS LATER!!

RE: A bit premature

How can you say that a guy who makes it to the Super Bowl as a STARTER in his rookie season, "is a bit premature"!! The coaches in his area who are probably not even Mormon consider him a role model for their high school boys...what is wrong with that?!!!!

Thanks

Mr. Harmon, thanks for the positive spin towards Collie and what he has accomplished - in contrast to your competitor at another newspaper, who, in my opinion, doesn't have a clue.

Austin collie is a great role modle. He had over 800 yards and 9 touchdowns as a rookie (including playoffs. He deserved the rookie of the year for sure. He lives a good life and gives a good example to kids that want to play and look up to football stars. It wont be long before he is a household name. He will be one of the best slot recivers in the league in just a few years.
