Anything supported by Mike Noel needs a parent's approval. And not Noel's parent's approval.
SB11 will absolutely make Utah less safe and I can just bet that terrorist cells are just waiting to buy firearms in Utah. We would become the Peshawar, Pakistan of gun sales for terrorists in the USA. The message to the entire terrorist world is...Utah is so crazy about guns..that we can exploit their liberal zeal for weaponry and buy guns and accessories without a background check. We just lost a cop to a person with a firearm. Firearms in your car is just nuts...for what?.. to shoot a cop when you are high on drugs at a routine traffic stop? The sponsor and co-sponsor of this insane bill are just not being rational. Is this what Utah needs right now?..More lenient gun laws. How about no tax on food first!!
For someone who believes government should back off, Mike Noel sure is busy this legislative session. Psst...Mike, YOU ARE THE GOVERNMENT! Stop meddling in our lives!
Hey, John- Go get some facts instead of making comments that are factually incorrect as well as irrational.
First- All "Utah made guns" will be subject to the SAME BACKGROUND CHECKS AS ANY OTHER GUN SOLD IN THE STATE.
Second- "Guns in your car to shoot a cop when you are high on drugs at a routine traffic stop?" Speak for yourself, if that is your experience, but us law abiding citizens have them for lawful self defense against criminals. And, we don't shoot cops or get high on drugs.
Third- The sponsors and supporters of this bill are entirely rational, and aware of the rights guaranteed (not granted) by the Second Amendment and Utah's Constitution Article 1 Section 6. They are just fighting back at excessive federal infringements on our freedom. In fact, they are joined by legislators in TWO other states which have passed nearly identical bills already. And, another TWENTY ONE STATES have similar bills pending.
Maybe you think nearly half the states are irrational, and this is crazy, but lots of people disagree with your assessment.
This is a good bill, and does not make anyone less safe, only more free.
Re: "9:50": Great comment. Well said.
for the facts John K.
I'm sondering why we couldn't get this information from the news article?
Gun shows and Utah's gun shows in particular are prime shopping grounds for terrorists and criminals to buy guns. Back when I was younger and worked for Coca Cola in Michigan, I saw for a fact that a syndicate of Middle Eastern men were going to gun shows and purchase mass amounts of firearms. On paper they were law abiding. In fact they were business owner of liquor stores. They were selling these guns to drug dealers because the dealers had records and could not buy as easily. This was pre-9-11. Some fanatical Muslims do not use banks because they think that banks are a Zionist entity. So ALL there transactions are in cash. Inter-changeable names, all cash transactions and the fact that few people want to learn Arabic or Farsi means that according to Islamic website chatter, exploit America's fears to destroy America. Coordinated mass shootings by terrorists using gun show bought firearms from places like Utah may be our next major terrorist strike. Either we restrict gun sales or we stop selling to Middle Eastern guys or we just let this attack occur.
Re: John Kateel: Calm down a bit. This bill won’t make any difference in any of the scary scenarios you’re worried about. As 9:50pm says, this bill won’t make anyone less safe, just more free. It’s an important attempt to get the federal government to retreat a little in its ever-expanding control over our lives.
The Army doctor who murdered all those soldiers last year was also a law abiding citizen....until he murdered all those soldiers. The old grandma who had a beef with her daughter in law at the daycare here in Utah was a law abiding concealed weapons permit holder until she murdered her daughter in law. The Virginia Tech guy did not have criminal record until he opened fire on all those students. In fact the majority of people who went on killing sprees in 2009 were law abiding citizens until they decided to start killing randomly. If you understood the Detroit culture like a native which I am, you will realize that radical Muslims with cash in hand can kill anyone they want at any given time and get away with it. FYI: Metro Detroit has the largest middle eastern population in the USA. Detroit is loaded with unsolved murders and hired hits. The cops can't solve murder cases because of the "no snitching" code of silence. I moved to Utah from the most violent city in America according to the FBI,Saginaw Michigan. I do not armed maniacs killing my wife and family.
If more citizens would be willing to protect themselves and there property with guns there would be less crime. There might also be less criminals. Bravo to the cops that kill them when there is a conforntation. They should get a medal, the criminals go to jail and are back on the street within hours.
