Comments about ‘Wanda Barzee wraps up plea deal in Elizabeth Smart case’

I dislike our legal system and the plea bargains that go on.

I guess you'd despise it more if every case went trial. The costs invovled would be astronomical and if you think it takes a long time for justice to be served now, wait 'til you see every case in a full jury trial.

Anonymous 11:20 is a naive bumpkin. Cases such as this must be resolved to spare the vitim the emotional trauma of trail and to keep from clogging the judicial system. If Anonymous wants his taxes raised by 10000 percent to pay for every case to go to trial, then he will have room to talk.

Why would ANY attorney in his/her right mind and common sense take on her case. I have zero respect for them.

Ever heard of a retainer fee? It's the cost the lawyer tells the client how much they will charge up front. Plus court costs on top of that. However, if they cant afford an attorney, our wonderful tax dollars will. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

its easy to know why an attorney would sign on to this case. It will drag on for years as we have seen...it is guaranteed income you can milk for years and years, its a case nobody really expects you to win, so there is no political downside. It is just sad that this lady has cost Utah countless resources in searching for elizabeth, countless resources in medicating and evaluating her, resources to prosecute and convict her and soon countless resources in housing and caring for her for the rest of her life. sad sad sad. We all must continue to pay the price for this.

Wanda's children should have been allowed to testify. They could tell the truth about Wanda:that she's a conniving, abusive predator who should spend the entire 15 years in prison & forget about credit for time served.

Her defense attorney was probably a Public Defender or appointed by the court and paid by tax dollars. If a Public Defender, he is paid a salary whether the thing drags on or not. If a private attorney appointed by the court, he is usually paid a fee which is much less than if he were retained privately. In either case the taxpayers get the privilege of paying for her defense.

To "Whiggy"at 11:32. Are you for real? This case has been going on for almost 7 years!!!!! I think the trauma and pain is as bad as it is going to get. Why, why, has this taken so long? The system is a joke.

How long must all this go on? It has been what 8 years? Just end it through both of them in a cell and loose the key. It will be a better world then.

they should keep both of them in there for the rest of there lifes and never let them walk the streets again, and close the cases already they both know what they did was worng and why doo we have to keep hearing the same old thing over and over . it's in the past all ready . smart is grown up and i'm sure this is opening old wounds that don't need to be opened let the poor girl have relive and geet on with her life.
