thank you Phil for being the only voice of reason. I will never understand how someone could say with a straight face that the economy is as important as the environment. If the environment becomes toxic due to economic forces we lose everything not just our money.
To "Thank you Phil": I'm not sure how people continue to confuse environment with climate change. They are two different things. Ironically, CO2 has been shown to help the environment. What has not been shown is that CO2 causes an increase in earth's temperature anywhere near what the IPCC's political scientists have claimed. For Phil Riesen to charge that those who voted for this resolution are anti-environment is wrong.
How can we destroy our economy, or cripple it in the very least, on a theory that is slowly being understood as a political money "gravy train"? There are some very greedy people who are taking complete advantage of the unproven and highly controversial theories concerning CO2's role in global warming. This should enrage those who are passionate about the issue on both sides! We need to wake up and save ourselves from this nonsense!!!
I agree that improving our environment and throwing billions of dollars to reducing CO2 are two different things. Everyone has a responsibility to take care of our planet, but we should be wise. The economy is incredibly important as it affords us the means by which we can continue to research how our activities are either hurting or helping the planet.
I am all for cleaner air and a healthy earth. It should be done in prudence and with 'We The People's' welfare in mind.
I am happy my state legislature is standing up for the constitutional rights of my state. The Federal Government has no constitutional authority to regulate CO2 emissions (or a lot of other things the federal government tries to regulate). This is a right that is delegated to the states because all rights not given to the Federal Government by the Constitution are given to the states. Maybe our legislature and other state legislatures should stand up for state's rights more... and take them back. There would be less corruption if the federal government did not have so much power.
The greedy corporate-controlled mouthpieces, such as Al Gore, are trying to take our money in the carbon scam.
Rather than worrying about C02, we need to focus on cleaning our air and water from dangerous pollutants. We've come so far since I was a kid, hopefully we can keep going.
How can we have such giant polluters in Utah that totally get a pass--like MagCorp, Kennecott, and Energy Solutions. We've let these frauds distract us from cleaning up our planet.
Oh, all you nay sayer, flat earth, non-believers. Global warming and climate change are facts. Yea, right. I'm glad there is a state that is standing up to fight this lie, and that's what it is, a lie, a scam. I agree with 'digbads'. The EPA needs to concentrate on cleaning up real problems.
Global warming is not a fact. Temps go up and temps go down. that is a fact.
I agree completely with the resolution. This whole climate - change " theory " is just that - a theory.
We are finding more and more information that proves that this all based on political theater rather than solid science.
It is interesting that Al Gore and crew now want it to be indentified as " Climate Change " rather than
"Global Warming " since we have been having a number of cooler than normal years.
I am old enough to remember the 1970's prediction of global cooling. Too bad that didn't come about for the fear- mongers either.
Before I moved here every one always bragged about how beautiful and clean it is here...um. no. Very few people here are concerned with the environment. There is litter all over the place, you actually have to ASK people to drive less because the air along the Wasatch front is so polluted, and someone actually ridiculed me for recycling. I agree with "Thank you Phil" that quote about the economy being just as important as the environment makes my stomach turn. The general feeling here is denial and apathy. It's not your problem, right? Someone else will take care of it. That's for future generations to worry about. Makes me sick. Global warming is happening as a result of human carelessness, and even now people are still denying the problem. We have a responsibility to take care of our environment!!! Please! I'm begging you to care about this!!! There is no money that goes into Al Gore's pocket by taking care of the environment!!!
I agree with observer. I have lived here for 20 years and I have to say that I have never seen a population in such denial of their compounding problems, or with such contempt for alternate views. "If I don't like it, why don't I leave", anyone?
Thank goodness for the Utah State Legislature to provide just a touch of sanity to the national discussion. Good for them for passing this resolution. Let Utah be the guiding light in a sea of confusion. Please don't fall for the greatest hoax in the history of the world! We can keep the planet clean - and make it cleaner - by NOT imposing job killing tax and spend philosophies. The economy is also important. Period.
The legislature doesn't represent me in this case.
I'm old enough that it will never effect be even if I leave the lights on all the time, but I think the world will be better off if we can each do little things as they come along, turing lights off, changing to CF bulbs, planning our driving etc.
If it doesn't help the environment it should help our balance of payments and the amount of oil we import.
Everyone should at least to try their best to help and not pass sill resolutions that make other people laugh at Utah.
For the moment ignore the climatological evidence for global warming and consider the thermodynamic implications of fossil fuel burning. The key point made by thermodynamics is that burning fossil fuels is a one way process, e.g. ash will not be reconstituted to coal. Useful energy has been converted to useless bound energy. Think of it, this process not not reversible! It reflects a permanent degradation of the environment from the standpoint of human habitation. I don't have any problem at all believing that such a process degrades man's environment it other ways, such as global warming.
Hey Wow, anyone who believes in Global Warming is SILLY. The whole THEORY is not only a theory it completely reverses the actual path of causation. The warming sun's effect on the oceans is what causes an increase in CO2, not the other way around. In other words, man is not causing global warming, the sun causes global warming or change, depending on the year. And that change affects the CO2 levels. Man and industry's effects are quite minor players.
What's worse, the entire scientific data supporting the THEORY has been totally corrupted by the believers in the SILLY THEORY. Simply put, the key corrupt scientists changed the data. They began eliminating colder data sources from the database to boost the apparent warming. That little strategy is nothing less than FRAUD. And it may land more than a few in jail. In other words, the SILLY global warming THEORY not only gets the cause and effects backwards, it is built on fabricated and faudulent data.
Laugh at Utah all you want, but anyone who believes in a fraudulent, causation reversed, THEORY is not only silly himself, but totally duped.
All these Man Made predictions.
Remember ‘Y2k,’
My good friend and computer geek told me that even if they fixed government and business computers my car and thousands of other products we use would be useless,
our computers matrix was out of time.
Those that wanted to survive ‘Y2k’ needed to buy MREs,
canned goods, 100 gallon water containers and move into the basement.
Computer geeks and Y2k company’s made billions fixing the problem.
Now we have ‘man made’ Global warming Climate change,
So…..
You need to buy more MREs,
canned goods, 100 gallon water containers and move into the basement..
(I do have some food stored because the Church of LDS prophets have told me to.)
But..
I find it Ironic that Washington and these left wing-nuts are going to be buried under 2 feet of snow, my prediction-
February 5 2010.
My only man made prediction is that the Colts will win the Super Bowl, Feb. 7
New Orleans will have to go back and wait for next year-
Unless it snows 2 foot in Miami.
Global warming has been nothing but a sham the whole time. Algore was worth 1 million in 2000 when he finished being VP, now he is worth more than 100 million. And with cap and trade he is projected to earn over 1 billion in carbon credits if passed. Don't tell me he is in it to save the planet. The science is settled? Bull, this will go down as one of the greatest conspiracies ever!!!
A resolution is basically the legislature wanting to put its opinion on record–but not actually changing any laws or doing anything.
So the people on this comment board can continue to debate whether there's a link between carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and climate change, but there is definitely no link between state legislative resolutions and any real-life difference.
The state of Utah is facing the worse economic/budget crisis in modern history, and our legislators are working on a non-binding "message" bill. Please!
No wonder businesses don't want to come to Utah to set up shop! We've got the worst air quality in the nation. We've got the lowest per-capita money spent on education. Buttars' silly proposal to cancel 12th grade is making Utah the laughing stock of the nation. Our governor takes money from coal to set favorable policy for the industry... and now we've got a silly message bill that will make us look backward in the eyes of high tech sector -- the only bright spot in the economy!
Stick with oil and gas! Keep importing oil from the Middle East! Pollute forever! Down with solar! Yea, Utah!
CO2 is plant food. Eliminate all CO2 emissions if you are so sure and see what happens. Answer: annihilation of all living things. But if those who are concerned want to completely eliminate their own CO2 emissions, I'm OK with that.
We've gone mad.
but not a leader. You're storing food not because it may or may not be a good idea of your own reckoning, but rather because someone told you to. Now if you'd have said you hae a pallet of beer, like I do, that's leadership in utah. Anyway, I'm a left wing-nut; I think the saints will take it and we are causing climate change. I'm not going to do anything about it, but that makes me lazy, and in that I have something common with the right.
