"Our leaders who got us into this mess." That would be the Bush administration. Is Philpot going to run against the conservative values of President Bush whose administration got us into this mess?

@ Dixie Dan

Come on, Enough already with the Bush bashing. Our problems are many and you may want to point a finger at the former administration but in reality the facts show that both parties have their warts. CONGRESS has been controlled by Dems(libs) since 2006 and it just has been getting worse ever since!

Was at the Capital today and liked what Morgan Philpot had to say. I care about the legacy left to my children, I'm willing to give him a chance to clean up the mess and help us leave a legacy worth leaving.

Greg

R's probably need something stronger than this Eagle Forum guy from American Fork to take out Matheson.

Tracy

Neil Walter (r), from St. George looks to have a distinct edge over Philpot. He can raise money, isn't a career politician or a right-winger, and understands economics and finance. I think more people are looking for that.

I agree with Tracy

Word on the street is that this Neil Walter guy has lots going for him and that he does have a distinct edge. Experience where it counts!!! I've looked at both of their platforms. Philpot's is a "phlatform!" There is not much there. Walter will definitely have the best chance of de=seating Matheson.

Where? Help me out

Where can i find Neil Walter's info? I heard some talk about him in the office today.

Publius2k

The Walter-bots already out. Morgan clearly stands the best chance, so I don't know who "I agree"'s "word on the street" contacts are. Morgan is not neocon RINO republican of the Bush sort, but will actually vote based on principles and logic. We could use a little more of that in Congress.

Philpot non-establishment

Philpot has served and has a proven conservative track record. He is experienced and has not been "bought". He understands the threats to our Nation and to our State and personal liberties. While he is conservative, I don't believe that he is an "eagle forum" guy.

Neil Walter has NO track record, he is just a business guy and while that may sound appealing to some. I want to know that who I am sending understands how the game is played and has proven that his values cannot be bought, that his principles are not for sale. That is Morgan Philpot.

It is too bad this Neil guy hasn't talked to Morgan, seems it would have been fiscally prudent to get behind a guy who will win. Neil could get his feet wet in politics and be a party uniter, building a better Republican Party and been a support to the cause rather than a divisor.

Morgan Philpot isn't the enemy - Jim Matheson and his out of control spending, and wasteful social programs and the Reid, Pelosi, Obama triad that has been at work since 2006 are the REAL enemies.

@Philpot non-establishment

FYI ... nothing against Philpot ... but he IS a member of the Eagle Forum and does serve on the board of Parent's For Choice (voucher supporters). So, he has been "bought" to some degree. But, yes, I agree not to the same degree as the others Rs who associate with both. I do not know where Walter stands with the Eagle Forum and/or vouchers. Would be curious to know if that information is available. Anyone know?

financial experience.

It is my understanding that Walter has experience dealing with Finances. I don't need another politician in washington democrat or republican, I need someone who knows how to create jobs and end this recession. According to his website:
BYU - Bachelors Finance
Carnegie Mellon - MBA - Emph. Finance
Conoco Phillips - Risk mgmt, Price Power & Gas derivatives, structured contracts
DSC - Economics & finance professor
Real Estate - Partner, Managing director of real estate firms in southern Utah.

Whoever the Republican nominee is, we need to support him or her.

Please, everyone understand...a vote for Jim Matheson is a vote for Nancy Pelosi. The very fact of his holding this congressional seat helps Nancy Pelosi stay in power. It doesn't matter how much he claims to be a conservative. If he were a conservative, he wouldn't be a Democrat.

Let's get rid of Matheson this year. Our country depends on it.

And please, let's stop this tired crap about how Bush got us into this mess. He didn't. No matter what faults he may have had, he's not a socialist and he protected us from terrorism. These leftists are trying to destroy our country. Please, let's stand up for what's right.

Establishment

Philpot = career politician since college
Philpot = no real world experience
Philpot = no financial background

Matheson = now a career politician
Matheson = real world experience
Matheson = Sometimes listens to his constituents (probably 45% of the time)

Walter = Real experience
Walter = years of financial background
Walter = understands how to fix economy
Walter = Views more in line with of the district - not liberal & not right winged. Common sense knowledge, a man of the people.

As for "philpot non-establishment" stating "Neil ...would have been fiscally prudent to get behind a guy who will win". I guess time will tell. Watch out.

Not eagle forum

Neil is not a member of the eagle forum. Don't know about vouchers.

@ Cats

It's people like you who should stay home on election day because your straight-party voting does nothing to honor the individuals who have fought and died for our right to actually vote.

Why would you vote for someone simply because of their party affiliation? If party politics has taught us anything, it's that party doesn't mean anything - what should count is personal character.

I'm not saying Matheson is the best or even the worst candidate at this point. I haven't finished doing my research yet. However, that's the point. I'm doing my research and not voting based on the letter that appears next to someone's name.

Laughable

FOR SALE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER: Young republican hopeful seeks wealthy financiers to help fund uphill political battle against popular democratic incumbent. Corporations, lobbyists, and out-of-state special interest groups welcome. Purity test preferred. Together we can use the establishment to change the establishment.

Another View

Absolutely the Morganites will want to say experience is important. the qualify it as Political Experience.
Walterites will say it is economical exerience that is important.
But strategist say it is who is known to the voters?
This Scott Brown shows anyone can win miss the oint that Scott Brown was a known elected official. Years of exerience and won many elections at different levels.
Lacking that, Economical Exerience is more important than Political Experience. Because both pale in comparison to Scott Brown on that level of exposure.
An "R" behind the name has proen to not be enough for 5 cycles to beat Matheson.
Who can close the gap in Salt Lake County and how?

@Cats 12:36

Exactly.

@another view

Didn't Philpot win twice in Salt Lake County?

Who's the better candidate?

After spending my precious time reviewing both republican candidates platforms on their websites ive come to the conclusion that both seem like nice guys but....

I will definitely vote for Walter. After looking over his views and realizing he has the type of experience that I think Washington needs right now, I know that he will have the BEST chance to beat Matheson.

Look over both of the candidates platforms and you will draw the same conclusion as I did.
