About time!!!!!
and one which may take some time to really show the potential positive outcomes. Universities in other states can charter schools, and sometimes they are very effective authorizers.
If we could get the universities to work that closely with K-12 schools, perhaps we could get them to change their education programs so they result in teachers who are more ready to be immediately effective in the classroom.
We hire teachers each year, and they have largely been untrained. We put them through a rigorous training, and then do TONS of coaching and training in their first year.
I have analyzed what they study in the college courses and it is really very disappointing. The level of rigor is minimal - the scientific analysis of data and learning to know what works and how to use data to know when they are successful (or not) is surprisingly ABSENT.
They learn NOTHING about the anatomy and physiology of the brain, and the biochemical processes of learning. HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE as the brain is the organ of learning?
Maybe this could start to change this fundamental flaw in our educational system.
How long until UEA files suit against this bill because it threatens their poorly-run educational monopoly?
As we've seen in the past, UEA exists to preserve the status quo when it comes to education in Utah.
100 years later and we still run our school schedules around the farm, the crops, and the harvest and primarily use textbooks. Just a LITTLE bit of progress would be nice.
Hopefully this is one small step in the right direction.
