Good

Well done guys. Keep up the good work.

Bennett is running for re-election, can you tell?

This has nothing to do with the people of DC having a vote. This is pandering to those here in Utah who think that gays should not be able to marry (the majority, btw).

Why not be honest about your motives, Bob?

Here We Go Again

Hey Utah - It's ok for you to believe homosexuality is wrong, you can teach that in your churches, you can believe it in your heart. We should all stand together to protect your right to your religious beliefs. All we ask, is that you recognize the need to respect that some people feel and believe differently, and may not share your beliefs on gay marriage. This will utlimately end up in our US Supreme court, where it will be determined a civil matter, and our states and Country will honor and respect that Gay people can love each other and marry each other, simultaneously respecting the right that a religion can preach against it, and can choose to not perform gay marriage. The line is very bright between separation of State and Religion - why is it that Utahns always want to blur it on this matter?

Eh

Let them vote. It's not a guaranteed right, so let's let the people decide who gets it.

And the homophobe parade continues.

Its very simple people. Mind your own business. Who someone choses to love is noones business but their own.

Wonderful

I'll glady donate to any organization keeping marriage what it should be. Hopefully the LDS church will continue to lead the charge - and I'm not even LDS!

Stay out of other people's business!

And you also understand that it's okay for us to use the democratic process as we wish, as well, right? Which might include voting against marriage for gays?

Thanks.

Steve

The democratic process was already used when the residents of DC voted for their city council representatives, and those elected representatives decided this matter as they decide most matters of DC law. That is the democratic process. Referendums are a new, experimental concept that were only used historically in one democracy - which failed (Athens). Why have we lost respect for our proven, real democratic process? Because the right-wingers who have nothing better to do than nose around in other people's love lives are sore losers.

No, it's not okay to use a voter referendum to take away people's fundamental civil rights. If that were ok, we'd still have slavery today, and most states under the mason dixon line would not be in the United States to begin with.

Isn't it ironic that when "the people" of California vote not to allow gay marriage, the people of Utah criticize the courts ability to overturn the will of the people, but when "the people of D.C" vote to allow gay marriage, they fully support an outsiders ability to overturn the will of the people. Hypocrisy anyone?

Live and let live

You represent Utah, not DC. Help people out here!

States Rights?

Where is all the claims of states rights to handle their own issues? Judicial Activism? That is code for "I didn't like their ruling."

Go ahead Utah. You are cementing your reputation of the most intolerant state and citizens in the U.S. Maybe not today, but soon the tide will shift and you will be left with the ugly legacy of being the most intolerant, uncompassionate group in the U.S.

Future generations will want nothing to do with your narrow views of society. Good luck, the youth of today, see the bigotry for what it is, irregardless of who's religion they attempt to justify themselve with.

So please, live your religion and quit legislating it upon others. Civil rights should never be something one group votes on whether another gets. NEVER.

DO

Had the Southern States been allowed to "vote" on civil rights and desegregation there wouldn't be any there today. Segregation would rule the day. Sometimes the "will of the people" is wrong and lags behind.

Bennett

Gee Senator Bennett you or your advocates must have read the blogs re Jason Chaffetz's stand on gay marriage and D.C. Obviously from the posts in DN, KSL and SLTrib, Utahns overwhelming oppose gay marriage so you have decided to get on Chaffetz's band wagon in the hopes that Utah will re-elect you because of your values. Well I agree that we should NOT allow gays the right to marry, marriage should be between a man and woman but I won't be voting for you again.

What don't Bennett and Chaffetz understand? A referendum on same-sex marriage would be in direct of DC law. The Human Rights Act, which was enacted by a referendum vote, prevents subjugating minority rights from being voted upon.

I wish our representatives would worry about what is going on in Utah rather than what is happening in the District of Colombia. Let them have their own representatives.

Silv

Surprise surprise surprise...

byu alum

So ironic. Utahs sure didn't like DC messing with their plural marriages in the 1880s.

Why the hypocrisy?

right

if gays are allowed to marry, this country will fall because of it.
