Ah ha ha ha! How can you not laugh at these legislators?

"Reduces the risk of cancer among smokers?" "Must be a bad idea." "Shouldn't we let the individuals decide?" "Of course not, what good is government if it doesn't interfere with your private life?"

I'm going to start my own country with nothing but the United States Constitution.

Am I wrong?

Am I missing something? Why would anyone want to ban something that could be a substitute for an even more disgusting habit? Why ban the lesser of two evils, but keep the worst one legal?

Publius

Looks like the vice patrol is out in full force. Interesting how these "conservative" legislators are all for limited government when it comes to certain issues but justify their intervention into personal space with mind numbing logic.

hippyrm

What a joke, our goverment is getting worse!!

John Charity Spring

The legislature should be applauded for taking a stand on this important community safety issue. For far too long, politicians have been willing to allow gluttony, laziness, and substance abuse to occur without sanction out of a desire to remain popular and be re-elected. Tobacco is one thing that cannot be consumed safely in any amount, and it is about time that the legislature realized this.

cmoore

Why would you ban something that helps people Quit smoking I have used this product and I am down to 2 cigarettes a day That is stupid if it helps people quit. I have tried everything and nothng has worked I have been smoking for 30 years.Think again on what people need the E cigarette or real cigarettes. DA

E-Cigarette User

I have an E-Cigarette, I like it a lot. I don't smell bad, I don't smoke in my car (therefore not littering my butts along the road). I have all but quit smoking regular cigarettes. I am almost over my "smoker's hack." No second hand smoke... Sounds like a great idea to ban it.

Miss X

To John Charity- E-cigarettes are tobacco free. It is just like Nicorette or the patch.

UTAH Bill

Ahhh... the nanny state continues. I'm a Conservative Mormon and don't smoke. But, I don't believe it's the role of government to regulate the market like this.

Banned from what? Sales? Public use? Manufacturing? This just in... It only ok to walk when.

I'm a militant anti-smoker who thinks smokers as a whole are rude and inconsiderate not to mention weak willed.

Having said that, I think people should have the choice to do what they want as long as it doesn't negatively affect others.

I'm in favor of banning smoking in all public places and enforcing littering laws against smokers who discard their filters illegally.

I'm against attempts to prevent smokers from purchasing tobacco products or restricting their private use where it doesn't negatively affect others.

We should improve biology education in the schools to teach kids about the effects of smoking and also teach them some lessons about being part of a civil society where we should all be mindful of others.

The e-cigarette? I don't really care what people do to themselves as long as I don't have to be affected by it. Let them smoke dung for all I care.

JCS is right

The e-cig is just another ploy to keep smokers in the habit long enough that they eventually give in and return to the real stuff.

Sterling

Legislators don't understand e cigarettes, and can't find an effective way to tax them, therefore they ban them!
This isn't ROCKET SCIENCE this is simply the legislature doing stupid stuff YET AGAIN.

Butch

When I look up at the Capitol on the hill, I tend to imagine little birds flying around the dome in a circle. Kind of like in cartoons after somebody gets knocked on the head with a frying pan.

They are clinically nuts up there! No bother. I'll just go buy three times the snuff for my nicotine fix since that is 'exempt'

Cool

Cool, I'll just plan on giving my money to another state when I buy them. At least the mfg's of e-cigs will get my money and not these leglislators via big tobacco funding. This is totally ridiculous.

Qualifications?

Do you even need to have a vague background in health sciences to be on the Health and Human Services committee? Or just have seen enough pigs give birth on a farm to think you understand?

Obstruct innovation

and progress, legislate your private lives, and hinder education. These are the conservative Utah republicans you keep voting for.

Seriously, voting for a democrat is not a sin.

These baffoons in office now believe they are untouchable and legislate their own morals on everyone else even if it means killing a CLEANER alternative to cigattees while keeping the dirty kind legal.

I cannot wait for 30 years from now when the non-LDS is in the majority in this state. Then you will see these political hacks completely reverse course.

Anything for power right?

Terrible

What a terrible move by Utah legislature. After smoking 2 packs a day for 12 years, E-Cigarettes are the only thing that helped me cut down. Not the patch, not the gum... E-CIGS WORK. Well.. I guess the State of Utah just lost a great amount of revenue as people will continue to buy these from states that do not ban the device.

Dear Pot,
Rude and inconsiderate huh? Kind of like your posting, or do you consider that polite and appropriate?
Weak willed? Talk to me when you get under 250 lbs.

Sincerely,

Kettle

Amazed

Has anyone looked at follow the money to see were he got the contributions from to fund his campaign. Hummmm.. Let's see he got it from a tobacco company Altria and from Banks and from Health Care. Can anyone spell hypocrite? Just another crook with his own agenda out to fill his pockets with money.
