Concealed Permit

I am really curious as to why a 70 year old woman was granted a concealed weapon permit. Am I wrong in thinking that only those who fear for their life (other than law enforcement) and can "prove" that they need a weapon to protect themselves are permitted to carry a concealed weapon?

Somethingin concealed weapons permit needs to be examined. I would think they should have a pyschological profile done on them as part of the weapons permit. I ecognize things can change after the permit is granted, but to have this done every two years as part of the requirement may eliminate some of these events.

Motives

What comes to my mind while reading this story is the motives for this marriage. When most foreign nationals come to this country marriage is a priority issue to get a permanent status to stay here. Then having children as anchors reinforces their abilty to remain here and reap the benefits of socialism. That's apparent because she didn't want to work but wanted to get the social benefits in a foreign country.

This is the same reason the illegal aliens are prolific with anchor children, government welfare. And they have the same marital problems.

They are marriages of convenience and deception from the start. Foreign nationals with government training and instructions know more about our system and how to loot and pilfer it than the american people do.

These international marriages have been a problem for many american families. You never know if any love at all exist with them, especially with short term relationships with language and culture barriers.

During my years of military service I have seen this happen too many times, where marriage was used as a tool to get in to america then quickly dissolve after children.

Very sad situation. To be a stranger in the country, and then to go through such a tumultuous divorce, it's already so much grief. Then to be gunned down in front of a school that you work at... there's so much dysfunction in the whole thing. There are times when there are no good solutions to the horrors we afflict on each other. A little kindness would've gone miles for these people.

Concealed Carry

Having a permit grants a privilege to carry a loaded gun. Everyone has the right to carry a gun, period. Only convicted felons are stripped of that right.

Her permit doesn't matter in this case. She was committing murder. Not having a permit would not have stopped her.

Hey Motives: "Then having children as anchors reinforces their abilty to remain here and reap the benefits of socialism. That's apparent because she didn't want to work but wanted to get the social benefits in a foreign country."

This was reported from her ex-husband. Can you trust this? Was she working? Yes.

Please do not judge her unless you KNOW the truth.

Me

Re: "Motives" you are dead wrong. People rarely get married and have 2 kids to anchor themselves here. You are obviously unaware of the process you have to go through to get married and stay here. I think the big problem here was to people that couldnt rise above the pettiness and settle their marriage/divorce like adults. Now its a murder case. The tragesy is the poor kids.

Re:Motives

First: Condolences go to this woman's family; especially her children. This has to be a horrible time.

Second: Motives...you rail against people who enter the country legally as well as against those who enter illegally? So, this really isn't an issue about legality. It seems like this is more an issue about what you "want"; "wants" is based upon biases. If you have no first-hand information on these people then you are placing perceived actions of others on them: That is the foundation of bigotry. Whatever your own "Motive" is: your argument would hold more water in a more-to-your-point forum (many of which could be found with this very newspaper) than in the reported murder and death; which by the way, IS illegal (yet not one word from you about this, odd.) It appears you will use any "soap-box" to promote your agenda; including a rant in the comment section of a murder. That blinders-only approach serves merely to weaken your agenda. Have, and show, some compassion for the victim here; which is not you.

Hello Concealed Permit,
I am a 73 year old woman, do not own a gun, don't like the ones my husband has. I consider my self - even at the ripe OLD age of 73, that I am not in need of a psychological evaluation. Guns do not kill people - PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. The woman who shot this person is/was unstable and hateful.

Was the victim...

a mail order bride?

Just curious.

Murder is wrong no matter the circumstances. Just trying to understand where the hatred came from.

Reality Check

Even if she was a "Mail Order Bride" it doesn't mean he bought and paid for her and she had no rights and it doesn't give his mother the right to execute her.
Many posts on Utah media seem to suggest that the killing was justified because he had somehow bought and paid for her.

julie

hey motives,
what a plonker, my ex husband used to say that to mewhen he was in the military, do you honestly think that america is all you think it is. europe is a much better place to live and more benefits, if that is any motive at all. your country is made up of all immigrants at one time or another. i wouldn't live in the US if my life depended on it. give me uk any day of the week, or any part of europe. true tradition and not universal, all the same boringness. motives, unless you are a native american then your line was an immigrant at one time.

re:motives

where do you get the information that she didn't want to work. She was leaving her job when she was murdered. She was also continuing her education. Read the original story.

Hey Julie

@ Julie

I've lived several places in the world and traveled to many others. Nearly all of them have their advantages; all have disadvantages. That said, I prefer the US and therefore consider it home. It comes down to what you value. Europe offers security through a social net (at least until the population decline forces a change); the US offers opportunity. Maybe this poor victim more wanted opportunity than she could have in her native country. I feel sorry for this tragedy in any case. The fact that it occurred in the US is essentially irrelevant and largely chance.

I must have missed something. I never read anywhere in the article that stated that Ms. Hanson had a concealed carry permit, or was carrying concealed. That should be a moot point, brought up only by the arrogant that feel the need to control everyone else.

Crick

Actually, I don't think its illegal to leave your kids alone in a car. But how long and other circumstances might add up to child endangerment. For example, I don't think leaving your kids in the car while you go to the redbox is illegal.

perfect crime

tired of your ex, get your old mother to shoot her, no more child support, you get off scott free.
I hope custody of the children is seriously looked at.

Re: zak

It has been reported by the police in numerous articles that she had a concealed weapons permit. I guess you need to catch up.
