Lets see, do we have dysfunctional representation from Utah?
"Rob Bishop, R-Utah, blasted the budget for cutting the funding for the Ares 1 rocket that would have helped return manned spaceflight to the moon. ATK in Utah has contracts for much of that work…Bishop added, "The president has thrown down the gauntlet on space and space jobs, and now it's time for Congress to step in and stop these cuts."
"Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, complained about what he called "the largest spending blueprint in our nation's history."
"To Chaffetz's chagrin, he found that Obama's budget contained a proposal to buy 1,000 new "whole-body imaging" machines at airports."
"Bob Bennett, R-Utah, has favored adding more such machines."
No comments from Matheson, hmm.
Yet following these trusted, true, true conservative men’s comments there was a major list of millions coming to Utah.
OK Utah, which way do you want it? The party of no seems to say "where is mine" a lot.
Let's face it, us Republicans are a mess right now. Matheson is the only one to make the right statement.
Avaricious, self centered, who cares about the average Joe Republicans. What is new? I am ashamed
!
As a Republican, I say we can not have it both ways. On one hand we insist the deficit be reduced. Then we complain when one of "our" programs is targeted.
We want safer air travel, but can't handle it when the searches are more reveling than we can stand.
Or, is it the laughter you are afraid of??
The Republican's have a chance to get our goverment back. But, first we have to stop acting like the Democrats.
They'd throw the country under a bus just to spite the Democrats.
How 'bout you put America first for a change Republicans?
Does this mean that folks in Utah do want government on their backs and do not mind government spending if the funds are spent in their state?
Security is costly. I'd rather have a machine detecting than a dog. Explain what is gained by a manned trip to the moon? What do we stand to gain? Do we really need to spend tax dollars on THAT? Let's put our kids in school and secure our airlines before we start dreaming star trek.
Sounds to me like our representatives are able to talk the talk, but have trouble walking the walk. People shouldn't have to live off of government subsidies they say ... unless those subsidies are headed our way. FYI, the Ares 1 was way behind schedule and way over budget (as was the rest of the program). It was a money pit if you ask me.
In total there is over 1 billion going to Utah but Orrin Hatch (R) is complaining we are spending too much. Bishop (R) is saying we should not cut spending in space programs because it will affect Utah. Please someone tell me where the exit is? I am going independent.
Sure the machine is much more expensive, up front, than a dog. But not only will the machine do a better job at airport security than a dog, it'll last longer too. It's these basic economic facts, these basic considerations that Republican politicians either don't mention or don't understand.
It wouldn't really matter what he does, would it? If Fox news says it's bad, then...
1 billion is a small piece of the pie when compared to the 3.55 trillion of the federal budget. Utah really isn't getting much of it.
Complain for the sake of complaining. What a bunch of wishy-washy whiners.
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
I saw President Obama talk to the GOP leadership on tv....... he cleaned their clocks. Probably went up 10% in the polls.
wow, what a performance. Man against boys.
It is surprising how we are hearing so much complaining from those that are suppose to represent the people of america and less action. "The other side have it wrong, but WE know how to fix the problem". The GOP had 8 years to put america in a deep deficit and a deep recession and have the nerve to stand up that we are heading in the wrong direction. Well, YES WE ARE!!! And WHO put us in this mess. Don't blame the OTHER GUY. What part do YOU play in all of this, SENATORS????
Gee don't cut here cut somewhere else. I've looked at the Budget Proposal and its spend spend spend. And of course no one wants there state cut. Government State and Federal just keeps on spending.
This is Socialism. We need to demand cuts everywhere and stop the spending.
Who is doing anything to rid the Nation of the Cancer called the Federal Reserve?
1 billion is a small piece of 3.55 trillion but in a state with 2.7 million, it's something. If you don't want your share then please donate.
Nationally, government is the largest employer in the country and creates the most jobs. We don't have a free enterprise economy when the majority of jobs are government funded. Spending cuts include eliminating jobs, this is one of the fallout problems of a socialistic government with no money.
This is just the tip of the economic problems our government has put themselves and our economy in. There has been a lot of bad and critical decisions made in Washington that has brought this about.
For free enterprise to work it has to come from independent and non government jobs. Along with spending cuts and job losses there is also fewer workers contributing to government funded programs, like the health care proposals. This is why government should not be in the business of interfering with free enterprise and socialism spending.
This also means that Utah will be facing the same losses in revenues so our legislators will also have to cut more jobs and spending cuts this year. The american people are about to face the most devastating social program cuts it has ever faced. Government has been living and spending beyond its means for decades.
I am so grateful for all you rich elites that voted for Obama.
He now expects you to pay for his 2010
$1.8 trillion dollar deficit.
And he continues to spend like a drunken sailor and slams the previous 8 Bush years.
I miss Bush,
at least we had a strong homeland leader and his entire 8 years had a 1 trillion dollar deficit.
Obama is an economic train wreck and we are all paying for the ride!
Not mentioned in this article is Obama's elimination of oil, gas, and coal subsidies. It may surprise many on how much the federal government gives corporate welfare to the very industries that have had record profits in recent years -- oil and gas, in particular, are all dominated by foreign entities.
I've seen on other blogs the GOP -- Grand Oil Party -- is complaining that their beloved fossil fuel subsidies will drive up energy prices! And these very same conservatives complain about subsidies offered wind, geothermal, and solar, which pale in light of the corporate welfare offered to the mature fossil fuels industry. They claim it will kill jobs -- but don't we get most of our oil and gas from the Mideast? Why worry about Mideast jobs when wind, solar, and geothermal are creating local jobs?
GOP folks keep saying "let the free market," but then complain if you eliminate subsidies for the industries they love -- can't have it both ways!
