No thanks

We have enough far right wing authoritarians as it is. We don't need any more.

This would be great! The polygamy tours from down in southern utah can expand to include all the polygamyist compounds in norther utah.
The GOP can show everyone nationally how they are creating new jobs. Excellent!

Why don't you two intolerant, anti-religion, Totalitarian supporting, Liberal Fascist Progressives take a long hike and leave the state if it's too much for you. Go live in Vermont. I'm sure you'll be well received among those other Socialist minded folk.

In Draper

I think it would be great -- just to be a part of the whole process and to get more recognition for Salt Lake City.

Jay Leno

I want to hire the first two posters on this board to be on my staff.. you're funny.

Having any national convention in SLC is great for the economy. Whether you agree with the politics or not.. this would be a boost for us in many ways!

Not a repub or a demo

Oh please no. I can already imagine the misguided members of my ward telling everyone it is their religious duty to attend the GOP convention.

Sometimes I wonder if these people realize Thomas S. Monson is the prophet and not Glenn Beck.

I love

listening to the liberals whine.

Competitors

Houston, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Tampa and Phoenix are among those mentioned as potential competitors.

Houston in August - hot muggy
San Antonio in August - hot muggy
Tampa in August - hot muggy
Phoenix in August - no way!
Salt Lake- reasonable temperatures and not muggy!

If the climate is a factor, SLC has a great chance.

Dixie Dan

This should prove entertaining for any national party who would hold a convention in SLC with our up todate alcohol and tobacco laws. Maybe we'll get lucky and have anti-Mormon Sarah Palin nominated for the GOP ticket.

John Locke

Business is business. Red or Blue, these kinds of highly visible conventions are good for any city's economy.

It's good to see SLC acting like a big city.

lost cause

Don't be surprised if the republicans respond to Salt Lake City's desire to host the 2012 GOP convention with the most commonly used word in the republican party's vocabulary: "No!"

Bart

There are a hundred reasons why they wouldn't come to SLC, and I doubt the weather will have anything to do with it. If summer temps are the pre-requisite, Denver will get it.

sue

Awesome. Just what we need to scare America from the GOP-- one of the nation's least diverse and wing-nuttiest states hosting the convention.

Anonymous

Pretty sure they'll go for Denver. The state is quite a bit more purple than Utah. I suppose we need more Democrats in Utah before we'll get a chance--quite the paradox.

no way

It is ironic how many Mormons are Republicans but do not realize the evangelical wing of the Republican party is very anti-Mormon, and will never allow the convention to be held in Salt Lake City.

Hey I would be careful about telling anyone with liberal views to leave the state. If you haven’t noticed Utah is changing on a yearly basis. In fact if memory serves Obama won in SL County. So instead of name calling someone with views that differ from you it would be best to embrace diversity or I suggest you hike up to ID, WYO, or MT.

Re: No Way

It is indeed ironic that so many Evangelicals can't see just how much they really have in common with the Mormons.

Hot Air

After skiing in Utah and seeing the pollution I don't know if anyone really wants to breathe the air.

If weather is a factor, Utah pollution is a no go.

What’s better than the majestic mountain back drop to the marquee 2012 Republican Convention. I have lived or traveled all over the country and the only thing that matches Utah’s beauty is its people. Although you’re beginning to get discovered, there still is a lot of misconception about the Wasatch Front. It’s not just skiing there’s a lot to do. It is rather cosmopolitan yet a great place to raise a family. It is also a great place for a fortune five hundred company to relocate. Utahans of all political persuasions should take pride in show casing the place they love to call home. It will help all of us out.
