I bought it, it's definitely a Must Have!!!
The BYU Men's Chorus performed "The Prayer" in a concert back in 2005, but they didn't officially record it for release on a CD.
Would it be too much to ask if we could have a little more diversity in terms of the makeup of the Choir and also song choices. I love the Choir and have done so for over 30 years. However, I have noticed that as our Church membership becomes more and more diverse, I would like to see that reflected in the membership of the Choir. It would be a wonderful missionary tool to show the world our rich cultural and racial diversity by having a diverse Choir. Just my 2 cents.
As far as I know, anyone can audition to be a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir; one only has the meet the rigid requirements (check their website, other articles and blogs about personal experiences). The other prerequisites are to be a temple-recommend holder, live within 150 miles of Temple Square and be within a certain age. There are no race, language or financial requirements. I bet the choir is more diverse now than it was 30 years ago and will continue to follow the highest standards in member selection. Not one member would have it any other way.
The Choir is talented, but over-rated. Saying "anyone can audition" isn't true. Aside from overly strigent worthiness requirements, there are also age requirements, and you need a recommendation letter from your bishop. And by limiting membership to people living within 150 miles of SLC, the racial make-up is going to be automatically and greatly restricted.
Enough already of four recordings a year. Seems they aren't special anymore. Focus on doing one "good" one and Christmas one -- just my 2 cents as well.
@ Too many recordings... Save up your money and buy the year's best rap album. Don't be so concerned that the choir is recording various collections of which one might inspire some more than others.
