goes out of his way
to call it "heavy-handed" when it most certainly is not.
SYRIANA is one of
2005's most interesting, thought-provoking, compelling and
well-made
films. It's about time someone made a film about the
corruptive nature of the
oil industry on politics, economics, corporations, and of
course, the
environment. Experts forcast that oil companies will make
$100 billion profit
in 2005. One hundred billion dollars! Profit! In just
one year! Vice says the
film is "brazen with its political leanings." So, does
this mean that if one
thinks oil companies are greedy, one must be a left
winger? I say go see the
film and make up your own mind about its message. This is
a very fine film.
alot of nice story lines, including the best in my opinion,
the lawyer following the money. his exchanges were
awesome. go see it. KB
go see it. It will make your beliefs real. Entertainment
value, zippo! I'm not saying there isn't power hungry oil
magnates, just this isn't the way to convey the message.
Remember, movies aren't real!
understanding of Syriana is stuningly obtuse. Apparently,
Jeff Vice prefers to dwell in his modern fantasy do-gooder
world, and he is unable to face some tough realities of our
lifes.
Syriana is a well crafted movie, whose mosaic editing and
pace are absolutely appropriate to the theme. The drive
for oil behind part of our political (and shall we dare say
economical) system have complex ramifications. Our modern
society's energy needs reverberate throughout the world and
affect the lives of many. Peons, brokers, spies, lawyers,
mullahs, emirs, and mothers are all involved in the
corrupted game. Ultimately, staying alive and surviving
might be the best many of us can do.
Syriana is a powerful movie. It will not make you feel
good, but it will make you think without imposing a
political ideology. It will be up to you to draw your
conclusions.
speaks to the intellectual laziness of movie go'ers.
Obviously a timely topic is being addressed and dissected,
and folks will just yawn. Ok, you get what you deserve,
America. Great thought provoking film.
right to his opinion so if Jeff Vice doesn't like the movie
that's his call. But there are errors in his telling of the
movie - Clooney did not play Bob Dalton, he played Bob
Barnes...to call him a Dalton would severely alter a plot
point! And also, why is it that no one remembers Wasim when
giving a synopsis? His character and motives were no less
important just because he was Pakistani.
and confusing. There were too many characters. I was hoping
that it would have the John le Carre touch and pull
everything together starting about the middle of the film,
but the subplots kept going right up to the end. The sound
was not good as well which helped add to the confusion. My
wife and kept asking each other, "what did he say?".
is a little over dramatized. Has almost no similarities to
Baer's "See no Evil" but more akin to his other book,
"Sleeping with the Devil," which talks about actual oil
politics. Hard to understand if you're not familiar with
the intricate politics over there.
every day. It's good for you to think beyond Headline News,
it won't hurt you. DVD rental must see.
