Mr.Vice:
I saw Men of Honor last night and read your review today.
While your synopsis is good, there is so much that you
missed or mis-understood. You stated that "real-life
events
didn't occur as neatly or conveniently as they do in this
(movie)". I disagree. Real life happens amidst a certain
level of chaos, and this movie echoes that. The only
predictable things in this movie were Deniro's depiction of
emptiness and despair; and the constant and hideous bigotry.
You also stated "the movie can't decide what it wants to
be." Real life occurs on many levels, simultaneously. The
multiple facets of this story line lend credibility to the
movie. Military people do find their paths crossing, and
all those previous events impact their subsequent
involvements.
Here is what is missing from the review:
)Dreams should not be allowed to die; and big dreamers need
others to help develop and support those dreams.
)Passion (in this case, swimming/diving) often finds its
fulfillment.
)Racism and bigotry are two of the most horrible of human
failings; they take up residence in the heart of people
that
for all the wrong reasons consider themselves better than
others.
)Honor takes a long, arduous time to develop and is tested
frequently and unexpectantly.
)Honor is a foundational component of what makes a culture
great.
)Only a few people really achieve true honor; the rest
settle for less: prestige, status, fame, wealth, amusement.

The old saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder
holds true for honor. Those who understand honor will see
it when it presents itself. We are unfortunate if we have
no role models for honor in our lives.
Our country needs men of honor and worthy role models. How
sad that we celebrate those who entertain us more that we
appreciate the little-known men and women who embody what
is
really important.

I fell in love with Chief Billy Sunday, reminiscent of so
many chief's I knew back in the 50's & 60's. Only, to find
out he was fictional.
BRING BACK THE OLD SALTS........

I enjoyed the movie as did my wife. The lead actors do a
great job. The only problem I saw and Jeff touched on
neither of the two main characters got enough character
developement time. In other words you did not get to know
either man very well. And I for one would have liked to get
to know both better.

It might be too shallow and a little disjointed but I did
find myself rooting for them both on several occasions.

First of allif you actually pay this putz to review movies
for you, then you are definetley a disparted fool. The
movie was excellent beyond the extraordinary performances
of
Deniro and Cuba. The story is a mixture of the struggle of
all who sought equal rights, drama at its best, bravery and
honor. Honor bring the title word. Honor is a thing that
is
very sporadic in our self-centered country, and if this
movies leaves you with anything it should be that we have
gotten away from the values that made this country great.
For me the movie was an " ehh o.k. Ill see it", now it is
one of the top five movies I have seen all year.

P.S. Ill write your reviews for free

It was an awesome movie! The actors were as great as the
story. And the reason they followed both charachter's lives
was because they had to come back together somehow. It
would of been tasteless of the producer to make you think
you were done with Sunday, only to bring him back in as
such a big part!
