I feel that this was one of the better movies of 1999. I
saw a lot of movies this year and I was disappointed with
so many of them. When I picked out this movie to rent, I
thought it wouldn't be that good, but I was prooved wrong!
Although it is similar to the Matrix, it is actually pretty
far from it. I was glad there wasn't much profanity, sex,
or too much violence. A lot of movies now a days seem to be
solely based on those things alone and it gets tiring real
quick. This movie was fresh in its essence, putting mystery
and scifi together, which is a combinaion not used very
often, but in this case worked. I felt that Craig Bierko
did a good deal of acting. Perhaps some people felt it was
bad because they may have freaked out if they were in his
position, but there was a different character who had that
job. I love this movie, but felt like I was left hanging
with the ending. Overall though, this, to me, was one of
the best films of 1999!

Though your reviews are generally accurate, you clearly
missed this one. Rarely has science fiction, drama,
mystery, romance and suspense been blended together so well
as this film beautifully achieves. The audience is trusted
to use their brains, and allow the plot to be revealed in
an ever increasing wave of surprises and plot twists. For
someone who loves anything by Kubrick (Thin Red Line, and
Eyes Wide Shut--both deplorable wastes of potential), it's
too bad you missed the mark with the truely inventive films
like this one. Donofrio's performance alone is a must see!
