This movie Wrongfully Accused, should be more of a two and a
half stars. I disagree with Mr. Vice, in a way that Leslie
Nielsen still has the talent. When you go to a Nielsen
movie you are not expecting an oscar caliber performance,
you expect laughs which are easily delivered. When you have
Lambchops the puppet, rushing the stage at a concert, that
is funny. Also the other movies that this movie made fun of
were actually funny clips. Anyways the best acting isn't
always the most entertaining.

It is possible to say that the Naked Gun movies, funny as
they were(with the downright exception of the awful O.J
Simpson, and I've kept that firmly in mind since 1995) all
but ruined Leslie Nielsen's career. You see, after the
Naked Gun trilogy, slapstick comedies like those and even
this one are just about all he ever got to star in. And, as
a result, they not only got stale, but they also
undermined his chances of getting anything serious to star
in, or at least co-star in. And with Wrongfully Accused,
which fairly well defies it's title, he's hit another
pothole. I can at least say this: while it wasn't given the
benefit of a press screening, which openly signals
it's dismalness, at least it's not as loathsome as
Nielsen's previous fiasco, Mr. Magoo. Unfortunately, it's
still not much worth the trip either, it parodies almost
everything from Baywatch to James Cameron's Titanic, but
it's all for naught. Among the very few funny scenes here
are where Nielsen is confronted by a whole bunch of
female TV reporters with exactly the same hairdo, clothes
and makeup. Otherwise, it get aboslutely nowhere, and it
pretty much puts another nail in the coffin of Nielsen's
film career. I'm glad to report that in the meantime, he's
doing a lot better in the theater, as told by the New
Yorker. He's been doing a play called "Where's Marlowe?",
and I must certainly commend him for that. For awhile, the
director Pat Proft had looked like the heir to the throne
once held by the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams, but with
this, he's proven that he just doesn't have what it's takes
to continue their legacy. Sorry Pat. But don't worry, I can
at least give Wrongfully Accused *1/2 stars.
