I really enjoyed this movie!! However, no one else who
watched it with me enjoyed it as much, which leads me to
believe that to appreciate the movie, you need to read the
book (or know the story) first. Although I hadn't really
liked the book, the movie REALLY helped the theme to hit
home - especially since there were some minor character
changes in the movie which made it that much better than
the book! Jennifer Jason Leigh is AWESOME as Catherine. I
recommend this movie for people who like to think, for
people who have read the book, and for people with personal
experience with verbal abuse (the story deals with the
effects of it, but you kind of need to know the background
to get that).

I love this movie. I am on a mission to understand the
ending more clearly. After Morris leaves Catherine's house
for the last time. She sits down, and she begins to
smile. The duet song that she and Morris played so happily
together begins to play. Are we left to think that she is
realizing that Morris really was her friend, and really did
love her. Was she smiling because she recalled the passion
that they both shared for music, and that is how their
affair started? Was she hoping that he would use that same
excuse to come again. If I could just feast my eyes on the
words to that song!!!!
