Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

subject matter from it's conception. How can you make a
movie spin-off from a cult television series with an
audience in desperate need for closure? You just can't,
okay? What is nice to hear is that people are now willing
to turn the other cheek on this film. Now with TP-mania 10
years behind us, we can finally see this film for what it
is: not an extended Twin Peaks episode, but a study of one
of it's many characters, a character that gained much
sympathy and admiration, but was never seen in the flesh.
The Laura Palmer Movie, as it should be called, is
everything a typical Lynch film is, which is probably what
upset so many Twin Peaks fans, as Twin Peaks was David
Lynch's on a viewer-friendly high. What sets it apart is
how personal FWWM feels, as opposed to cold and distant,
much like his other films. And the film does provide us
with some closure, after all - we all spent SO much time
back in 1990 with Laura Palmer in the back of our minds,
constantly asking Who? and Why?, shouldn't it be right for
us to know What For? And for a show with such spooky,
supernatural elements, can we be sure that Laura, unhappy
all her life, has finally found peace in her afterlife? The
answer is yes, and that makes me feel so much better.

critics are hardly qualified to pick on movies like this.
Mr. Hicks' asinine review of this movie is obviously devoid
of any appreciation for David Lynch's style. Maybe he should
have just said so and left it at that. Myself, I am not even
a fan of the Twin Peaks series, and I loved this movie.
Bizarre, but not too much, and hey, I'm not going to be so
weak as to object simply because of the "kinky" (please, how
vanilla are you) sex or drug use depictions. The pace of
this movie has a delightfully hypnotic quality (especially
some of the music). Maybe you have to be in the right state
of mind to appreciate some of the humor (or at least be able
to think in terms of that state), but that's true of many
movies (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is another).
