What a great movie for a cold winter's night: pure, raw
energy. We all need a fairy tale to relate to, and this
movie certainly has all of the elements of one, albeit in
a 90's form. Above all, though, I found the raw emotional
energy that is conveyed, and experienced, to be the overwhelming aspect of this movie. Be honest with yourself
when you evaluate this movie, and I am sure you will agree
that it is pure entertainment, what 'pulp' movies are all
about.
I just watched True Romance for the 4th time at least and
it
confirmed, as always, that Clarence and Alabama are doing
it
for you and me. The greatest feminist cinematic moment in
the history of the celluloid universe starts with the
corkscrew to the foot - the triumph of girl over goon
should
bring a tear to the hardest hearted. If you don't see this
film, you won't understand nuttin and the system will screw
you for the rest of your life.
To me, it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I guess I'd give it
**1/2 stars overall. I found some of the violence to be
pretty terrifying, but the perfomances were good,
particularly Arquette and Slater's. And yes, I enjoyed how
Arquette managed to turn the tables on the gangster
scumbag who held her hostage in her hotel room and beat her
up. I suppose there is some kind of feminist aspect to that
scene in which she manages to triumph over a hefty creep
like that gangster, and it's certainly one of the things
that I can most appreciate here. One thing I should note
though, is that Dennis Hopper here plays one of the most
"normal" members of the cast, and that you should be
prepared for that as well.
Powerful movie! The cast is one of the best things of this
movie.I love patricia arquette and gary oldman. Its cool
how I wasn't forced to see this movie with those ads all
over the place. Theres a difference between good production
and just having a lot of money. Putting out a movie and the
best thing about the movie is the protaganists' salary.
SAD!
